Installing Air/Fuel Gauge..... few questions

Im gonna be buying an air/fuel gauge from Autometer. I know how to power the thing up illumination wise and power wise. But wich sensor under the hood do i tap into to get the correct readings from??

I was told a while back there is a two small harness right in front of the valve cover and that i tap one of those wires?? If you know where to go for this lead please post.

thanks guys!

Their is a blue and white stripped wire, with extra shielding around it, it goes into the O2 sensor connector at the front right of your engine, that's what you tap into...

wow that was a fast response!!

i just looked at that plug on my motor, i have a red/black stripe a blue and a white. They do go into an o2 harness that goes down to the sensor.

Don't tap into the shielded wires...they are actually on the 02 sensor...use the ones just at the front of the bank on the plug.

Tap into the white wire. That should be the middle of the 3 that you indicated below.

do i tap into both of those wires indicated $50-#51?? or just one of the two??
I might try that white wire on the harness i was looking at earlier and see if that will give me anything 1st. Id rather not tap into wires off my ECU, hehe.

OT: I got my Autometer Phantom gauges(AF,Volt,Dual-pod) shipped for $120 through a friend who has accounts with distributors in Cali.

thanks for all the help so far guys!!!

tap either 50 or 51, but not both. one is the front bank and one is the rear bank.

i'd have to agree with this,.. after puttin nitrous and feelin the need for gauges i did the same thing and my AF gauge never read right, it always stayed in 1/2 in stoich and 1/2 in lean and whenever my Rockford amp dropped real low the thing jumped all the way to the last led light on the rich side if you read those instructions from Autometer, at the bottom it says something about doing damage to the gauge if you tap the wrong wire or tap it at the wrong place or something like that.

the autometer A/F gauges aren't very accurate to begin with. i used to have one and when i was running lean it'd still light up all the green leds. so i sold it and got different A/F gauge.

Awww Antony, I could have sold you mine for a very cheap price. If only I have known. I got an Autometer Air/Fuel gauge, but not going to use it because I'm going to use the EGT gauge instead. Oh well.

off topic,.. but since the o2 sensor simply sends a voltage based on the oxygen content of the exhaust. 0.45 V means u are running at 14.7:1 afr and anything less than .45 means ur running lean and anything greater than .45 means ur running rich. Now my question here is that cant we simply make a Analog to Digital converter that would monitor this (and possibly other sensors such as EGR Temp and IAT )and then display that on a small 2X16 LCD which can be mounted anywhere thereby making those big *** guages useless... anybody follow me on this? has this been attempted? Im kinda curios.. I might try this out as a next lil project..

I've got them last April and they're a bit noisy. Having the radio on does wonders!

No...I have Pirelli Pzero 245.40.ZR.18 in the back and Nitto 555's up front...Nittos were about half the cost of Pirellis....I love Pirelli but they wear out way to fast.. Nittos I dont know about. Ever since Ive put them on, my car feels as if its floating...but that most likly is due to my struts.. ****ing tokico's need replacement.
