Push-open Ash Tray/Coin Holder...

I'm having a problem with my Push-open Coin Holder (located to the right side of the power outlet). I call it a coin holder because it is not an ash tray in my car! Anyways...

It keeps popping open on it's own when I hit small bumps in the road. It used to only pop open occasionally when I hit a larger bump, but now it seems to open even on the smallest of bumps in the road.

Is there something inside that needs to be tightened or should I just buy a new piece for there. It's really annoying pushing it closed every 5 seconds while your driving down the interstate. Some might say to just leave it open, but it bothers me.

Anyone else have this problem?

Later,
-Nick

Is it new? Is it black? I might be interested. I'm wondering if the magnet that holds this closed or the spring are messed up. I dunno.

I'll let you know though.

I leave mine open and use it as a cell phone holder.

May want to consider that...

The ash-tray on mine was messed up when I purchased it and used to rattle. 3M double-sided tape to the rescue!!

There's a little clipping mechanism inside the "coin holder", but you have to remove it to get there. Just remove the plastic trim around the shifter (firmly and gently pull it up, it just clips in - put the car in Neutral to do this) and you can undo the screws that hold in the ashtray. Make sure you unplug the wire that goes to the light bulb inside before you yank it out though

Take a look in the back... you can see where the white piece clips into the rest of the holder to keep it shut. The little metal clips are just bent a little.

Good luck!

hahaha...mine does that too. Weird thing it only happen if there are many coins in there. If there's not many coins or none at all, it won't happen. Weird huh?

Time to go out and rip apart my dash...

I would put my cell phone in there, but I don't have one. It just annoys me that it pops open!

I bought it on eBay "new", and it is black. But I never had the need to replace it because I already had the aluminum dash kit on it. But the extra one I have is "new" and black, and works fine.
