So ~441hp to the wheels using 18% drive train loss, thats still allot. I think the 450hp Ron is talking about is at the crank, so he should be safe.

Yeah, I was just joking about that. But hey, you never know...He might just decide to push it some more.

One other thing about the block: I'm betting this was pretty much a stock VQ block with an open-deck design. If Nissan could build a closed-deck VQ, I'm sure the block could handle more power. The Honda boys do the same with their drag engines.

With all of the aftermarket support going to the new VQ35DE I wonder if/how much we will be able to use for ourselves. Now that we have a VI it would be interesting to see if we could find a VVT that would work with our engine a la 3rd gen VE (or at least new cams from JWT). Mardigras findings on a new throttle body would also be a good addition to VQ30DET internals on a boosted engine

If you were going to go all out it would be cool to be able to lower your compression and be able to use some of the VQ35DE parts (crank, rods) to make a more boost friendly VQ33DE. I'm still learning about internals, but right now it seems like you can either go the VQ30DET route to lower compression or try making a NA VQ33DE engine while (probably) raising compression.

I have been investigating this open-deck design on our VQs. It may be possible to weld some bars between the sleeves and the block to hold the sleeves still when running serious power. They will flop around under high power. I'll let you know how well it works.

I have heard (I could be wrong) that JWT makes a special "decked" headgasket to help. Not sure that it will though.

I bought an engine recently to start my engine project. It's going to take a while cos no funds . I will be building over the next year. When I get it built, I hope to be running 20 psi .

 

why a 2.5L when you can just get a VQ30DET?
