just got my leather...couple of ques...

I bought a leather interiour from ebay. Supposedly it is factory quality leather. I know nothing about leather, but I noticed its not the same throughout. Some parts are thicker with a dark back, while some are thinner with a white back. Is this normal? Also where do I get those hog rings and pliers? Also, are the left and right seats interchangeble?

ok, that alnswers almost none of my questions. My leather is not from leatherseats.com My main question is whether the factory leather is made from 2 different kinds of leather. I want to know if I got ripped off.

Possible revision to your post:

Questions:

1) Has anyone ordered a leather kit from xxxxx company? I purchased one of their kits off e-bay.

2) What constitutes factory quality leather?

3) Why do some pieces contain a dark back and some pieces contain a white back?

4) Where do I get hog pliers? What about the need for hog rings, how do I go about getting those?

5) Are the left and right seat pieces interchangeable?

How to find answers:

1) Do a search here for the company that sold you the kit. Also, actually specifying the name of the company would help rather than the generic "I got the kit off e-bay".

2) Best answered by the people who sold you the leather kit; in addition, an e-mail to leatherseats.com would show you how/what kinds of leather they use and they can probably allude to what leather OEM makers typically use. We here aren't OEM leather insert experts. Having said that a search here with "leatherseats.com quality" or the like may get you into a thread that discusses this in more detail.

3) Best answered by the company that sold you the kit or even leatherseats.com.

4) My search link probably answered that question. But you have to look in the threads.

5) Could be answered by the company that sold you the kit, through an e-mail to leatherseats.com, or using common sense and looking at your current seats, where you'll notice the driver's side seatback has the lumbar adjustment which isn't shared by the passenger side. The leatherseats.com kit resolves this by the installer cutting a hole for the support. Whether your kit does that is unknown.

Good luck in your research. Let us know what you find out.

I would love to ask the "company", but the seats were bought from a regual seller. I asked him about them, but he has no clue either.

That's going to make it real difficult for anyone here to give you intelligent and relevant answers.

Let us know if you get anymore "clues".

Ouch. I guess Bill doesn't pull punches....pretty funny.

mb1 - If it's "factory quality" leather, then you're getting seat covers that are made out of both vinyl and leather. Leather for your **** and back, and vinyl for the sides and back of the seat. That would probably explain the differences in material thickness.

Oh, and I don't think the L & R seats are interchangable. There is a cutout for a lumbar-support type lever on the side of the driver's seat that doesn't exist on the passenger side (at least on my car). I'm sure if you were desperate you could make it work though...

Factory Nissan leather, especially in 4th gens is not the best quality. Although i do not have it in my car, I've sat in numerous leather interior 4th gens.

From what i heard, the sitting surface is leather and the back part is vinyl. I could be wrong though, i heard this mentioned here on the org.

The seats not matching right... hmm
are you sure it's not just perforation or something?
But it can very well be different grain

It's not THAT difficult; you can get the hog rings and hog ring pliers from The Eastwood Company. Go to
http://www.eastwoodcompany.com and search "hog ring"

I had the factory leather in mine. Long story short, I replaced them with Leatherseats.com. The factory covers do have different backings in different areas. Just install them, generously apply leather dressing, and be happy.

NYCe MaXiMa is right, the seating areas are leather with the sides being vinyl but that is the same with aftermarket.

Ya, because it's MUCH too hard to answer his question. If you don't know, then why post at all?

If people stop telling others to search all the time and just stop responding at all, others would be forced to search as no one is answering their questions. Oh wait, no, sorry that makes sense. Wouldn't want ot see that happen here!

I told him where to go to find out, and what questions to construct when trying to find out.

Let see....and what did you do....oh, what a typical stupidass leech would do: b!tch and whine about how I choose to answer a question. If you don't like it, upstage me with a thoughtful and detailed post. Put me in my place through a post that makes a contribution, not a b!tch and moan post.

Simply amazing. How about thinking on your own and coming up with answers or possibilities instead of moaning about other's contributions?

Yeah, and we wouldn't want to see you have an original, creative, or substantive thought to contribute here, either.

Uh, yeah. I said my orginal link to the search results in my first response would tell him where to go to get those.

I referred in a later post it was going to be difficult to get good answers on his specific kit. I did not say it would be difficult to find out how to get hog rings and pliers and ljl10 was kind enough to allude to the material color backing on the different sections of leather/vinyl to indicate which was which. I also answered the interchangeability question based upon the leatherseats.com kit, which was also confirmed by ljl10. With his specific kit of unknown origin, coming up with correct answers based upon personal research or experiences here would be difficult.

I swear some of you see "Moderator" and then anything alluding to "search" or "research" and all of you freak out like we're holding a master record of every answer to every question related to Maximas and choose to b!tch at us rather than help your fellow Maxima owner.

Bill - I don't think it's mod-dependent. I think anyone could come on and give edgy 'search' kind of responses and get the same reaction.

There's a varying degree of skill of how people come on an internet forum and formulate questions well, and also research information well with the tools that are provided to them. Also varying is how much they'll be able to improve this skill. You can only try so much; you can only post so many edgy-comeback-type messages in an attempt to get people to see the light. I'd think sometimes, depending on the situation, it'd just be best to ignore the thread rather than post a response that people can shape into a negative comment, and get all bent out of shape over.

and...
But I wanted 16 bowls of cereal to equal what Total can provide
