air bag warning light

so I double park my car the other night (leaving my lights/hazards on) close the door and the alarm initiates.(i hear the beep) I walk back to the car a minute later and hear a continuous beep as I open the door. I start the ignition and see the air bag warning light come on - I freak out a little bit and turn off the ignition. I wait...then turn it on again - and the light stays on for what I think is more than the normal "7-second period" - anyone else experience this? I tried a search and found nothing like this.. I did not hit anything or have had any sudden-braking - anyone have any idea?

Are you saying it stays on longer now or is constantly on? Mine, on occassion, stays on a little longer than usual.

At which click on the ignition are your Abag lights on?
Mines on when the car is just sending power to the radio and A/C(second click I think), but not when I turn it all the way to fire up the engine.

As long as it goes off, then it should be okay. You could have the dealer check it, if its still under warranty.

Mine blinks permanently. I've been meaning to have the dealer take a look. I guess I shouldn't have started the car with the seats out (side airbags in seats) when I was installing the stereo.

sounds like u were in a hurry and forgot to shut off ur headlights... thats why i think your max was beeping and i think ur just paranoid about the airbags... 7 seconds is normal..

Hey does anyone know how this issue was resolved? I am having the same problem with my 2000 max, one day the light just started blinking and hasnt stopped since. When I start the car the light stays on for a couple seconds and then it starts to blink and it doesnt go off until I turn off the car. I am hoping that it is somthing stupid and just needs to be reset because I am thinking that it is going to cost a butt load of money, and I just passed 60K miles .

Mine has done that since day one. I was always nervous about it staying on slightly longer than the rest of the dash lights, but then I just figured maybe it's a delay because it needs to communicate with the airbag module in the armrest. I dunno. It goes off after a few seconds, so I just quit worrying about it.

Yes, Mine did that too, But now it is continually blinking when the car is on, it never goes off, except for when the car is off. Has anyone else had this problem and what did it take to get it fixed?

Take it to the dealer pay $70 and have them reset the light. Unless you know someone with a Consult II. Then they can do it for you.

Hey guys, just wanted to post the resolution to this particular problem. I took my car in and got it back today, the service guy said he hooked up the consult 2 computer up to my car and it had a retensoner code in the circuit. They cleared the code and re-tested and everything came back fine. It cost me 86 bucks, not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but still, one freakin light and there goes my money. Thanks for all of your input guys.
