Autotragic owners - Why?

Well?

And if you bought an automatic to build a 12 second Maxima just post below, only one that I know of though.

I screwed up and posted this as a regular thread and a poll, some kindly moderator merged the threads - thanks. If the first few posts seem weird this is why.

automatics are generally easier to find then standards. I know some people who bought automatics, not knowing the potential of their car, and now they kick themselves for buying the autotragic.

Some people don't care about shifting?

Some people don't care about "maximum performance"?

Some people would rather buy a sports car if they wanted a manual transmission?

1. 5 yeas ago I couldn't drive stick
2. the 5spd cars I found sucked or weren't my taste
3. I don't like driving stick in heavy traffic and in DC and VA thats a big *** problem

and you can make an automatic fast...so I still don't undertand why people always say "why'd you buy an auto if you wanted to race"

1. Cuz I don't want to step on a clutch pedel all the time, and I can't get the Ferrari type shifter in a maxima.

2. I wanted to do some kewl stuff to an auto, just to prove they don't have to be bad.

3. I coudn't get an Audi A6 2.7t 6 speed at the time.

Cause my parents didn't want me to start driving with a 5 speed so now I'm stuck with an auto till I get my next car. I still love my max though.

Well since my reason is not up there....

I got the best deal in Atlanta for my auto... It was $3000 less than any 5-spd I found that I wanted..after a month of looking I snagged the auto up

Been happy since

Yes you can make an auto fast but with the same mods 5 speeds will always be faster because of the gearing and the driver chooses at what rpm's to launch at. (My maximas are both auto, but with an '02 it's fast either way)

how about if you add don's vb mod? then you shift just as fast in an auto with no miss shifts.....right?

, but you still have the disadvantages of higher drivetrain losses and one less gear ratio.

So far in the poll it looks like only about 12% of autotragic owners really want one. More than 30% settled for an auto and about 25% changed their mind after they got it. The remaining 30% got an auto because of a lot of city driving.

City driving, laziness, no need for speed, all those are applicable here. Having an auto is just perfect. If I want a crotch rocket so I can drag, I certainly wouldn't be driving a max.

I like the smooth ride, nice looks, low maintainence, and the moderate quicks. Shifting manually is great at the track, but in the city it just plain sucks. When I'm rollin, e.g. "with the homies", I would prefer to keep an eye on the tunes and the road rather than fill one hand with stick all night long. Not sure any of this matters, but I like the auto, I would dig a sportronic though.

I drove a stick in three different vehicles for 5 years.. I was worried about performance and "Dude, you gotta get em off the line!" well.. I have yet to be beat off the line with my auto max!! although I've only been up against Mustangs, an AWD Eclipse, a Lexus not sure which model, and a tricked out Jeep(ha ha, a tricked out jeep).. I'm surprised as hell with the auto's performace in the low speed range!
If I was worried about stompin TTSupra's and NSX's I'd buy a damn Vette!! manual of course

Oh yeah, and a 2k2 Eclipse (those things are slow as hell.. the GS or whatever)

Amen, I agree and plus the Maxima is quick enough with the auto.

I frequent the freeways of Los Angeles where the traffic never moves otherwise I would not have gone for the automatic but I don't regret my choice.

Went shopping for a black 4th gen with a 5 speed. Quickly found out that they are hard to find. Found a Crimson Blaze max that was slightly modded already. Drove the car, liked the car, bought the car. Quickly found that Crimson Blaze is rare. Very happy despite having to deal with automatic ideosyncracies.

Personally, I'd rather be a few tenths slower if it means never finding myself stuck at a bar after last call with a designated driver who can't drive a stick......but that's just practicality speaking...

Heres another way I justify the Auto... If I win, you lost to an Auto. If I lose, Its an automatic...

my last car was a 5 speed and i loved it. 92 chevy beretta gtz...it just had too many problems that i didn't have time to keep fixing and spending more money, so my mom took me to a dealership, we traded it in and i got the first car i liked not even caring it was auto. now right now i wish i had a 5spd badly but what are ya gonna do? i've got bigger fish to fry so i figure i can wait till i buy my next car to get what i really really want. auto max is still pretty darn quick.

why are manual owners so worried about Automatic driver's automatics?
Hehe, don't act like it doesnt' go both ways on the .org. I've seen more posts the opposite of this one. All of them end up in flammage!

If I want a crotch rocket so I can drag, I certainly wouldn't be driving a max.
If I wanted a dragster, I'd rather it be auto. And in a response to you'd rather be paying attention to the tunes/road, it's not like you have to stare at the RPM gauge or shifter or anything. It's second nature.

Personally I think a manual just makes driving in a car like this more fun. I'm big on "fun" with driving. For me this is a combination of acceleration, control, and handling. All three are more enriched by a manual transmission in my eyes. Now if a car's running 12s or lower with lots of torque, I'd probably rather it be an auto. Or if I had a ride like a 95 Impala SS, I'd want it to be an auto, so I could kick back on gangsta lean and roll softly

To each his own though. You guys with auto maximas are cool with me.
