Assuming that you have the bezel out of the car and the clear lexan cover off the guage pod... I reccomend doing this when you car is low on gas prefferably empty with the light on. If you just filled up thats ok too, but I'll explain later.
Start with the water temp gauge, just because thats the least accurate gauge.
1. rotate the needle gently to the top of the gauge with your finger (you should feel no resistance). Take a pair of needle nose pliers or hobby pliers and squeeze the bottom of the needle rest so it pops out.
2. remove the small screw from the gauge face
3. let the needle return to its normal position.
4. Counterclockwise rotate the needle to its calibration point. (this is when you will feel obvious resistance while turning the needle in a counterclockwise motion) while at this stop point or calibration point, mark its position on the white tub that the gauges sit in. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT IT RELATES TO ACCURACY OF THE NEEDLES AFTERWARDS. After the EXACT position has been market continue to turn counter clock wise 2 full turns and on the second turn start to apply upward tension and continue to take the needle off slowly. its ok to turn the needle 7 or 8 times counter clockwise while doing this, the needle sits on the spindle with out any kind of screw threads. So continue to spin the needle with slight upward tension till if gently falls off the spindle.
5. Now that the needle is off, you can take the gauge off and apply the LED rings to clear plastic below the gauge. Be sure to have the actual LED's facing in the proper alignment. meaning that the 2 smaller gauges have the led light pointing towards the center and the 2 larger gauges will have the 3 LED's pointing towards the top of the gauges.
6. Place the guage face back on to/and over the LED ring.
** If you do not have white needles you will need to sand the red backing to the needles off and paint them white or a corresponding color to what ever color of indiglo needles you are installing. If you are a GXE/GLE and are also installing white gauge faces or indigle faces, paint the back side of the tips of your needles Red or blue so you can see your needles during the day. In some cases you'll have white needles on a glossy white guage face **
7. Make sure that the LED ring does not occlude the whole at all, this will cause your needles to stick and not move properly.
8. Place the small screw back in place on the gauge face securing it back on to the gauge pod.
9. In a counter clockwise motion-begin to turn the needles onto the spindle. this may take several turns. you don't want to apply too much pressure while turning or you break the spindle. as you are turning apply some downward force and you'll be done in no time. Besure to give your needle some clearance to turn. After you have the needle securly attached while still spining the needles Counterclockwise stop turning the needle at the calibration point. If you go to far turn it a full turn counterclockwise and return it to that point till you have it lined up exactly in the same spot you marked.
10. Gently move the calibrated needle clockwise to the top of the gauge you should feel it turn without it dragging on the guage face. You might let it go and let it fall using the internal spings in the mechanism, if it doesn't its ok. The smaller needles don't alway do this. reinsert the needle rest by pressing it into the whole with the needle resting above.
11. Continue the removal of needles the same way I have mentioned above.
*Note after you have all the needles done I recommend you cut a notch out of your white guage pod about the diameter of a pencil and attach the heavier wire into it, this will allow slack inside of the gauge and your thin coated wires to not chaff with driving road vibrations or accidentally being pulled on while installing the power source.*
Check and double check the clearance of the needles inside and outside of the holes so they don't stick or drag on the guage face.
I attached the power source to the cigarette lighter inside the dash because its an ignition powersource and there are only 2 wires leading to it so its easy to determine the hot and cold wires. If you refer to you directions they might indicate how to attach them to your dimmer switch for the interior lights.
Have fun, good luck..
