Bose factory stereo
I got a Bose factory stereo...which looks really nice. I am going to install my new polk subs, and the installer says that my Bose stereo is not made for an amplifier. This is really wierd. I thought you can just run the RCA cables to the stereo from the amp. He wants to charge me $140 for the converter thing for the stereo and installation of wires for amp. Is this true? Thanks a bunch
Adding Sub to Bose
The installer is kinda right. Go here;

Look at the PD2 and PD4 interface. There are also other units sold by Crutchfiled etc.

You aren't using an adaptor? Exactly what do you have the RCAs plugged into? It doesn't make sense.

If i am not Mistaken.....the BOSE head Unit Dose not have RCA jacks.....so you would need a High/Low adapator to install a Amp...or a New Head unit that has RCA jacks and that give 0 watts out.......IS my understanding of the correct???
Re: Re: Re: Re: Adding Sub to Bose
Your bose stereo system is not made for an amplifer = true, why because each speaker already has it's own amplifer. It is my understanding that you do need that converter ( i dont know about that price though ) unless you get a aftermarket head unit, then you will not need that converter.

I have a lot of experience in this area. You need a converter if you want to use rca cables...basicly it converts the line into rca jacks....a lot of amps do have line inputs and rca inputs...so you could use either....the problem is when you tap into the speaker line you lose some power....so it would not be as loud as a head unit with rca outputs.
The bose speakers in the rear deck don't have any tweeters in them....bose is made to have a lot of mid range bass...so they have the components up front and just woofers in the rear....and as for the installer....that's about how much most people would charge....$20 for the converter, $30-40 for wire, $50-75 to put it all in
In short:
If you just want a little more bass it's fine
If you want a quality and powerful stereo system...your going to have to change out the whole stereo.
So be happy with a little more bass or spend a few grand to impress people and hurt your ears
