After 5-Speed Conversion, Cruise STILL Works!!!
We finally got "everything" in and we have adjusted almost everything possible in the car. This morning, I took it out to go to work and to my amazement, the Cruise control still works and cruise engages. I have no idea why it works on mine and not on anybody elses. The only wiring that I have done that deals with wiring are the wires that lead from the front tranny harness to the back switch on the clutch pedal. Anybody have any ideas why?
On another note, if you look at the driver's side of the tranny and look to the bottom left corner near the the drive shaft axle, there is a "big" wire harness coming out from the tranny. Well, my tranny did not come with that connector so I have to way to wire it to the car. So right now, the reverse lights do not work. Anyone know how to wire up that 4-wire harness to the car without a connector? the connector that it is supposed to go up to is a 7-wire connector. Hence my problem, 4 wires plugging up to 7 wires. Thanks all.....

I believe all you have to do it rewire the park/neutral safety switch wires to the button
that's mounted on the clutch pedal braket. It's explained on the HAL's instruction. I just finished the conversion, but I did not rewire the park/neutral safety switch, so my cruise unit does not work.
The idea is simple. By rewiring park/neutral safety switch, instead of you putting the automatic shifter to the park/neutral, you can just push clutch pedal all the way and engage the button on the clutch pedal braket. By doing this, you're telling ECU that the tranny is in park/neutral position.
Reason for doing this rewire is to let ECU know if the tranny is in neutral or in gear. If you just connect those two wires that's explained on HAL's instruction(like I did), ECU will always think the tranny is in neutral even though it's in gear, therefore cruise unit will not work.

Add-on to the instructions:
In step 1.5, it says to connect two wires on the tranny harness. You instead, need to run a wire from both of the tranny wires, to the clutch pedal switch (small switch that is engaged when you push the clutch all the way down). This will let your car know when it is "Neutral (since it thinks it is an automatic)".. your reason for doing this, is so that 1. You cant start the car without the clutch(safety)... and #2, SO CRUISE CONTROL WILL WORK.

sorry to be of topic but how long did it take you to conver it to 5 spd... i really want to start findingn parts but i cant quite justify all that down time (i work 2 jobs and go to school full time) also how much did u spend on something like this? i want to get some facts from people who actually did it... thanks
f550 maranello2, i'll post up when im finished with the details (but to give you and idea now)...... i graduated a semester early from college, and i start medical school this august. so bascially i started doing research and gathering parts around... march maybe and i've had most of the summer to do the work, my car has been down for a lonnng time (but i've also been traveling overseas).
okay, about the cruise control, in understand the p-n switch, but that's for the switch on the back of the clutch pedal, to make sure that the clutch is fully depressed when the car is started. however, there is a switch at the front of the clutch pedal so when the clutch is pressed down slightly, i believe it is supposed to disable the cruise when on. so i am wondering what do i wire to that switch? (i think the brake pedal has a similar switch on the front which disables the cruise as soon as the brake pedal is depressed slightly). thanks.

okay, after looking @ my haynes manual for a little bit, i think i may have come up with a solution to this problem (i have tried searching, and i know other people have done 5spd conversions and gotten the cruise to work, but i want mine to work AND disable when the clutch pedal is pressed, and i couldn't find any info on that).
So, if anybody knows anything about this any info would be appreciated. but as of now, i'm guessing that if i wire the cruise wires to the brake pedal and clutch pedal in series, that could be a solution. i am assuming that when the cruise control is on, the cancel button breaks the circuit just as the brake pedal does when it it slightly depressed. so if i cut one of the cruise wires going into the brake pedal and add in the switch for the clutch pedal to recomplete the circuit, then when cruise is on i am assuming pressing either the brake or clutch pedal down would cut the circuit and cancel the cruise.
so a simplified image for visual ppl of what i am talking about:
cruise control-------brake pedal switch-------cruise control
(the switch is closed when the brake pedal is up, and open when the brake is depressed)
how i could wire in the clutch pedal:
cruise control--------brake pedal switch---clutch pedal switch-----cruise control
(so the brake and clutch pedal switches are in series with one another)
alright, any help with this would be appreciated. i'll definitely post up on here when my conversion is done.

BUT I'm seriously about to buy a 5speed conversion kit from a wrecker... I just need a sanity check.. IS IT WORTH IT?
I love to drive, so 5 speed would be good, I'm just worried about something going wrong.. IS IT WORTH IT?
Looking to plonk down the dollars this week, kit comes with everything.
BUT is it worth the hassle + $'s + any risk of it not working right????
Heres the DONOR

99% say it's worth it. There are a slight few that have decided to go with a RWD configuration rather than keep the FWD. And I do not mean make the Max RWD, I mean change cars altogether.
Out of everyone that I can remember that has done it, only one person decided to go elsewhere. Broaner, but maybe he did think it was worth it but stilld ecided RWD was the way to go with the VQ.

If your car is in mint condition and seriously modded out, I can see why you'd want to do the conversion instead of selling and buying a 5-spd.

I've seen the instructions and pics - thats a SERIOUS amount of time and requires a lot of tinkering ability.
