Frankencar Catback TIP STYLE: You pick

Ok i have to decide semi soon what i want the tip of my catback exhaust to look like. I dont like the big opening (greddy style) like the one i have on my car has now, nor do i like the cattman style one. since you guys are gonna be buying(hopefully) i'm gonna leave it up to you to decide. please look around and provide a link to the picture of it at least if not a description and pic.

about the exhuast before you ask, i'm still planning on under 500 dollars, and it will be FULL Stainless Steel, full polish, all tig welds and mandrel bends with factory style everything, you wil be able to get just the rear section or midpipe also, pricing on those is still be to determined but around 260 each or so.

Something like the HKS rear section....dual tips. 3", 3.5" or 4". Single doesn't look good on 5th gens. Go with the dual.

the tip won't alter the sound much if at all, it won't be a resonated tip or anything, the exhaust will sound good, i will have one on my car soon but i need a tip style you guys like.

I'd say a dual oval tip 3". I would stay away from single big tips b/c I think they are rice.

I concur with the dual 3" oval... I have been looking for some tips like that to put on my stock muffler cuz I HATE the dual turn-downs on my AE

Dual Square Tips looks very elegant on our cars. Also DTM style is good looking.

My friend has a CLK 55 tip on his older I30, it looks pretty cool, clean looking.

I would definately want it to be a dual pipe muffler. I kinda of like the way Cattman's looks, except i've never seen any shots of the kit on a Maxima other than what's on his website. Most of all I wouldn't want it to be loud as hell.

I'm with you...dual tips...3" or so diameter...Round probably over square...but I'd have to see both on the actual car to decide.

If you want a coffee can exhaust, you should not be driving a Maxima. You should sell it, and go buy a Stanza, or a Civic, strap a 6 Inch tip to it and Fart your A$$ down the street . I am tired of all these ricers on this board .

Ban me if you dont like it !

The Greddy EVO exhaust has a big tip and some might say that your 3" tips on your powertech are ricey. People have various tastes, some look good others dont.

A little hostile ever since you got back from Baja... Hmm I wonder what they did to you over there. haha j/k

I agree, no oversized fart cans. I think the Max looks best with dual tips.

I would say dual tips, no bigger than 3" each. The Remus style is very nice, but not the one in the pic earlier in this thread.
How about price? I know $500 is maybe the "market price," but come on...I guess it's what the market will bear?

You've got to many crazy domestic V8 push-rod power ideas still floating around in there.
Why are 3.5" exhausts "ricey"?
Why are dual 3.5" exhaust not?
How can you say only ricers have coffee can exhausts; what about Top Secret Supras, Signal Skyline GT-Rs and the lot?
Are they ricers?
Come on stop hateing things just because stupid HonDUH nerds ruined everything.

There's plenty of rice and ghetto on this board, so don't hate, you might be guilty of one or both yourself. As far as an exhaust, is your vaunted powertech no longer worthy?

The problem with the rounded wide-open exhaust is that too many people have them on their cheap civics, so hillbillies associate the big exhaust with rice. Our Maximas, while not being top-end performance cars, are still a far cry from the sub $20K civics. I think we're a nice median between them and the high performance Supras and Skylines with big open exhausts. Another issue is the sound. If you stick a big exhaust on a 4 cylinder engine, you get that obnoxious 'reeeeee' sound like most civics make. On a bigger engine with some real power, you'll get a throatier sound, so the big can will sound nice on our cars (almost like the Greddy).

Ya the engine will purr but it won't rumble or anything. I wish there was a way to get Jap exhausts to rumble like domestics.. I don't like the coffee can style period, I don't see what's so cool about huge tips (I especially dont like the canisters)...but whatever floats your boat.

Not sure if anyone here has a big can exhaust on an SC'd Maxima. I'm guessing they'd sound ok.

Honestly, I was playing devil's advocate when I suggested the big can. I knew it would bring out the rice haters and we could have a big brouhaha .

A big rounded tip on our cars wouldn't look right.

I like how you flame people about how this and that is ricey. If that Greddy exhaust was on a Civic EX, you would call it rice. BUT on a Maxima you say it isnt? Heres the kicker though, both tips are the same size for both cars. I personally dont think that the Greddy is ricey, but rather its a nice size. On the other hand your 3" powertech tips, which are the size of the Apex-I WS single tip for the 4th gen Maxima are a little out of hand IMO. I am not trying to attack you personally, just lighten up a little bit.

I would have to say something like this...

In my opinion, the square tip fits much better than the round tip. NOT TO SAY ROUND LOOKS BAD. I think square might fit better. They match up more with the lines of the area where the exhaust would go. Round tips in a rectangle shape just doesnt go with me. In these pics, he could have even tucked it in more and made the tips kinda flush mounted. But that is just my opinion.

Tips like this with the Stillen rear valence look sweet.

I forgot who's car that is. That exhaust he's got is an OBX knockoff of the Remus style. But that style of tips is exactly what I like right now. I also agree that it would look great with the Stillen lip kit.

Kloogy's exhaust is a Powertech with dual 4" tips. Normally I would say that is waaaay too big, but somehow from the pics on his homepage, they look alright. Might be different in person...either way, too big for my tastes.

i'm definetly liking the dual 3" square tips with a rolled lip maybe even slightly angle cut.

kloogy-

price: $500 was top pricing depending on what i get for numbers. the greddy is at least 530 and it's not all SS and the cattman is 600 i want to stay under 500 and have the best exhuast for the money or even all around.

Tips

I'd like to see a Greddy sized tip, squashed into an oval shape, almost rectangle to fit the bumper cut out. The tip should be rolled , and angle cut. That would be sweeeet!
