Possible newer max for me soon (I hope)

First off, I really like my max. However I have always wanted an SE, and I have not liked having a bright red rocket due to my driving habits. Also, lately I have decided I like the 5 speeds better. So, anyway I was driving home from work the other day and I saw this max at a dealership and I didn't give it a second thought at first but it implanted itself into my consciousness and I found myself drawn back to it. I went back today, but the place was closed. However, I looked at it as carefully as I could, and determined that I really want to trade my '90 GXE in on this sweet baby.

It's a '93 SE 5Speed, glossy black paint, dark grey interior, 105,000 miles, sunroof, modern wheels, clifford alarm, nicely tinted all around, and complete alpine system. Of course, there was no price on the car so I'll have to go back tomorrow and find out how much it is.. However, I am more concerned with the mechanical condition of the car, and if it is not up to my expectations of a 9 year old maxima then I'll probably pass it up.

Actually, I just noticed it looks almost exatly like DABOX91SE's car #1. Not one for one, but close.

Thats a nice ride, I like.
I never did dig the stock SE wheels though. Not my style. The GXE's are a little better, but not too much.

Thats my thing too. I was just mentioning that as a sidenote. As long as my car runs strong and reliable, I can work on the looks but if not....well, if you look at my homepage you can see I haven't gotten to the looks part yet. LOL

Good luck I hope everything works out for you and you get that 93 SE, you won't regret it but make sure you get it checked out before you buy it and see that everything is well.

you deff. wont regret it, the best feeling in the world is moving your GXE out of the way so you can pull out your VE 5spd

I'm really psyched out. I really really want this thing. I guess I'll first find out if I can even afford it. If so, I belive I'll take a test drive and check the VTC's and find about if it has this "heat soak" thing.

There is hardly any body damage whatsoever, save a few scratches around the door handles but this is easily remedied with a sharpie. It looks like it has been well cared for. Lastly I will probably be removing the alpine stuff if I buy it.

Get a 2k2 and then just get all the AE package stuff afterward. How can you miss the 3.5 by one year!

okay, heres the deal. The 5 speed was gone, but around town I found another car, almost identical, except it's an auto. The guy says he'll give me 2800 trade for my 90 GXE which is actually only a little short of Private Party BB. The thing that sucks is that the car is 6800 bucks. This seems a little expensive. Also, it has some problems. The car has a really rough idle while in drive and stopped.
Also, the ABS light is on. Are these cause for concern, or common SE traits? I told him before I did anything I'd have a mechanic check it out.

That is way too much for a ve auto. I have a 93 and when I am finished with it I was only thinking of 5-5.5k for it if I sold it. It will have new vtcs, stillen kit, stillen type 2 wing,17"wheels with 225-45-17 tires, new suspension up front(control arm bushings, inner and outer tie rods, ball joints), it also has eibach pro kit springs plus a new paint job.

so I would say shop around some more because that is way overpriced...I mean heck you have a max so dont get in a rush and go out and buy just any ve.

good luck with your search

I have a bunch of info and stuff, and I will see if I can talk them down citing the actual value of the car and the cost of the repairs it will likely need. I was possibly looking at trying to get them to take the cost of any repairs out of the selling cost, and I would be happy with that. I dunno. I'm going out to look around town some more and I'll see what I can find. I understand that price is way too high for most of you, but if I can get the cost of the repairs removed I would be happy with it because Maximas are /extremely/ rare in these parts, and they rarely go for much less than high to mid blue book.

Ok, well that was a bust. Turns out the poor thing already had signs of the dreaded VTC tick so I think I'll have to pass on it. I saw this ad in the portland paper that looks a lot closer to my price range, although I'd have to drive 2 hours just to look at it.

1991 MAXIMA SE, loaded, lthr, 5spd, V6, snrf, pearl white, new tires, $3499/ofr. 503-516-0651

I may look into it, but I don't remember what year the VE's started. I think it was 92....and needless to say, after experiencing VE POWER I will not settle for less

Good at least you have an idea of the difference between a VE and VG now and won't settle for less. Just be patient and the right VE will come!

Ok, this will quite likely be my last post on this topic. I feel its getting a bit long. Anyways, it turns out I was overlooking the obvious. I work in the detail shop at a local dealer who sells new cars and used cars newer than 96. Our cars are quite expensive: VW, Volvo, and Jeep. Point is, if someone trades in a car not "up to par" we wholesale it to a lesser dealer. Turns out the used sales manager would just as soon cut the employees a wholesale deal than actually wholesale it. He says he'll let me know if any 92-94 Maxima SE's come in and hold them so I can check em out. Now it's just a waiting game which is fine with me.
