What the heck. I called Tirerack to order tires (245/40/18) and the guy on the phone told me flatly that they won't work. He said the widest I can go is 235.

For those of you with 245, any rubbing?

How wide is your wheel?

 

Wheel is 18 x 8.5

 

if the wheel is 18x8.5, you will need to get 245s and not 235s..if you get 235s, then the tires will crown..but with 245s, you will rub occasionally.

 

i guess it depends on the width of your rims. but 245's should work on a max w/o rubbing. call tirerack back. extension 362...his name is luke. he should hook you up. he helped me out w/ 245/35/19's. i just ordered rims/tires yesterday. tell him brandon w/ 2002 max referred you. not that i'll make any $ out of this, but hopefully it will ring a bell with him and help you out.

 

I haven't changed the springs (yet) but you're telling me I'll rub some at stock height? Can you give me a sense of how often? Is it only at full lock in either direction?

And I didn't think I could put a 235 on a 8.5 inch rim but that's what the dude recommended.

I have 245/40/18 on 18x8 SSR GT1s and there is NO rubbing at all on my 2K SE, but my suspension height, for the moment , is stock.

 

Although I have stock springs, I have a system in the back, and I often drove with 5 or even more people in the car, and so far no rubbing. I'm glad I didn't go with 235s, but it's your call.

 

I have 18x8.5 and 245/40s on stock spring/shicks and have driven on road coursces several times and no rubbing.

I should have my JICs sometime in the next two weeks, hopefully it won't rub after they are installed.

What about this: Has anybody tried 255/35/18? I think an 8.5 inch rim would hold it, right?

 

If you get 8.5's and a 245 tire, get at least a +40 mm offset. This "should" not rub. I have 18x8.5 with a +37, on 245/40/18's and the rears DO RUB. If I'm cornering really hard into a banked turn my fronts rub as well. My car has JIC FLT-A2 coilovers, lowered so there is about 1 finger gap in the front and rear.

 

i have SSR GT1's (+38 offset 18"x8") with HTR+ 245 40 18.
They don't rub, but I have stock. suspension. They run great... but it seems my rear left strut has gone soft...
i can't afford anymore mods! argh!

Oh yeah... I got it from Tirerack too. Got it thru Henry. his email is henry@tirerack.com. Don't have his extension on me... One more thing, just tell them that the 245 40 18 is within specifications to fit the 8" rims... and that there is much experience with other people that said that there is no problem. Reason why they recommend 235 is b/c most 5th Gen Maximas come with 16", not 17". The 235 width has less speedometer error when compared to stock 16". the 245 has less error when compared to the SE's 17" package...

Stock yes, lowered I don't know. I have 18x8's with a 35mm offset with 245/40 and I don't rub, but I'm not lowered.

get 235's. Tirerack.com won't lie to you. They sell tires to millions of people. If a doctor prescribed you 235 milligrams of a drug would you say "I want 245 mg instead?" Trust me, stick with the reccommended width.

 

I have 18x8 Evos with 245/40/18 purchased from Tirerack with Eibachs and no rubbing.

 

you may rub, accept it because if the offset is too far out, you will rub on the fender, if your offset is too close you probably will rub against the inner fender liner

I have 245/40-18s on my 4th gen and the dont rub even with a 35mm offset
I also run 245/35-19s with a 32 mm offset and the DO rub occasionally

I'm lowered quite a bit on coilovers too

 

I had the 235/40 the first time on my Mille Miglias. After bending all four wheels and getting new ones, I went with the 245/40 and it was a much better ride. Plus less wheel gap.

 

Alright, I just lowered my 2KSE (Eibach/Tokiko) and I need help on what will and will not rub. I want to go with 18x8.5 and a 245/40/18 tire. I am guessing that I could get away with a +38 offset, but to be safe I should get a +40. What is the best offset? Do I need go go with an offset higher than +40? Maybe go with a +45 and space it out as needed. Maybe spacers only in the back. Maybe different ffsets for the front and rear? What do you guys think?

I run a 19 with a 245, with a 39mm offset. Offset is the most importanant thing to look at. But I will tell you this the car is right now sitting over the back wheel and it only rubs with a fat man in the back on big bumps. I plan to raise it back to flush and run a 255 if I can find one.

 

I was suprised to see this old thread dug up.

Just so you know, I went with the same rims Stereodude has (18x8 Enkei RPM2s) with 245/40 Yokohama AVS db tires. I've also lowered it with H&R sport springs. The drop is modest and the ride is good. NO rubbing. And the fender gap is, IMO, perfect.

In short, I wouldn't change a thing.

I think if you have a 8" wide rim a 35mm offset is the "limit" and with 8.5" a 41mm offset is the "limit". The extra .5" ads about 12.7mm to the width of the rim. Half of that 12.7mm is going to go on each side of the rim, so in order to counteract that you need to change the offset by 6mm.

Stereodude, I really want to go with a 40 offset on the 8.5 wide, however, maybe I should rethink it and just go with the 45 offset. What do you think? I could always add a spacer and bring it out a touch or so. Maybe I could just add spacers in the rear.

 

The inside, but keep in mind it's more of a noise thing than a real problem, and it's down about 3" droped in the rear, once i put it back to it's normal 2.5" drop it will be fine like it was. You can always shave the inner fender to. Like I said I plan to go wider If i can find it and see no problem with it. If you got a normal spring drop you will have Zero problems. Your over thinking and over worrying about it...stop it Go for it.

 

I got some new 18X9 40mm offset Roja Formula 5 wheels with 245/40/18 no rub and my car is dropped with H&R. They just put em on today. Before that I had 18X8.5 RD sport5 with a 35mm offset and 245/40/18 tire. Never rubbed once not even with 5 adults in the car during a trip to San Antonio.

 

Alright, I made my move. I purchased some BBS RS2's 18x8.5 w/a +40. They should arrive this week. In addition I am getting my digital camera so I will be able to post pics. Stay tuned! What kind of tires should I get. I want 245/40/18's and don't know what to go with.
