First trip to track with my 2K2 - results

Took my bone stock automatic 2K2 GXE to the track tonight. Not sure how to get a good burnout with this front wheel drive but I did my best. It pulls forward even with the emergency brake on. Tried the water box one time with disasterous results. Wheel hop is a real problem too. A few fixes, a couple of mods, cooler weather and this car might run pretty good for a front wheel drive family sedan.

Anyway, here are my results:

Best et = 14.769 @ 88.44 mph (let up ET racing)
Best mph = 92.57 with a 14.834 et
Best 60' = 2.174 with a 14.898 et @ 92.24 mph

Too bad I had to let up on that 14.769 run as that would have been an even better et. 14.70 maybe?

My best et breaks down like this:

60' = 2.187
1/8 = 9.468 @ 75.22 mph
1/4 = 14.769 @ 88.44 mph

Best mph:

60' = 2.176
1/8 = 9.532 @ 74.79 mph
1/4 = 14.834 @ 92.57 mph

Can't figure out why that one had a better 60' but worse et.

Weather on 14.769 run was 86 degrees, 79% humidity, baro 30.01
A that last run it cooled off a little to 82, humidity 94%, baro 30.02

Most of the guys were running slow tonight due to weather. One bone stock 2002 LS1 TransAm was only running 14.2s. They are 13 second cars almost anytime. He said in cooler weather he ran a 13.7?

I'll do a weather correction tomorrow and see what it would have ran in cooler weather. I've found a pretty accurate site for calculating varying weather conditions.

Too bad the scales were not working tonight. I would like to have seen what my race weight was. Next time...

interesting

Interesting, I also have a stock 2K2 GXE (auto obviously)...

Your 60' and 1/4 miles significantly better than mine, but your trap speeds aren't that different. I went to the drag strip twice around here, here are my bests:

1/4 mile time: 15.158 @ 91.88
60' time: 2.337 (same run as above)
1/4 mile speed: 15.314 @ 93.14 (diff. run, diff. day)

I never did a burnout or anything nor did I try the waterbox. Did you brake torque? What were your tire pressures like? Did you take out anything to save weight like the spare tire, tools, and back seat?

It was quite hot the day I got my best times... like around 89, don't know the humidity or atmos. pressure.

cwerdna,

I had one run that was similar to yours. I ran 15.189 @ 91.35 mph with only a 2.376 60'. Lost traction bad on that run. Those 60' times really make a difference. This was with 38 psi in the front and back tires. All other passes were with 29 psi in front.

I did torque brake on all my launches. Seems to grab better the higher the rpm but would have to play more to determine best rpm. Maybe a full throttle torque brake would give best results based on my limited experience with the car.

I did remove my spare tire and jack. Back seats and every thing else was still in. Had just over 1/4 tank of gas.

Give this formula a try. With 60 degrees, 50% humidity and same baro I would have ran a 14.51 @ 94.67 mph. Quite an improvement. I have found this site very accurate when testing with my Camaro.

SWEETSOUND2001,

Thanks, but there is a better 60' left in the car with this wheel hop problem solved.

This is what I could achieve in late Oct stock. I ran my 14.664 in those conditions and corrected to lower temps its a 14.4 stock, but now I have and injen intake, UDP, and suspension plus some 15" stickies for this weekend coming up

Original Conditions:

Temp: 80
Humidity: 70
Barometric Pressure: 30
Density Altitude: 1,598
Original results:

ET: 14.664
MPH: 93.09

Submitted conditions:

Temperature: 60
Humidity: 40
Barometric pressure: 30
Density Altitude: -1
Corrected results:
(What you would have run under the submitted conditions)

Corrected ET =14.40
Corrected MPH =94.81

I won't be able to make it to the BBQ. I'm going to a different one that day. As for the drags, maybe. If I convince my friend w/his 3.2TL Type S to go, then I'm definitely there.

Thanks! At least we are not talking about a BBQ anymore on a thread about my 1/4 times.
