it's kinda funny that there's NOTHING in that post that has anything to do with Maxima. the GN/GNX are very very fast straight. they will fall on the twisties.

You got whooped by 275hp, 295lb of torque. Doesn't matter what they 1/4 mile at. You're not gonna catch up. Hehe. The faster you go, the more you lose by. Can't emphesize it enough. Benz and BMWs are autobahn runners. Don't bother playing with the V8s if you're NA. 120mph in a E420 is like 85mph in the max. Its really nothing.

I got beat by a 430 about 5 months ago. He was slaloming on the interstate through a construction zone and I thought, when he gets next to me I'll blip the gas and shut down his gap. Well I blipped the gas and he still made th gap....the race was ON! We raced 60-130 and 80-135 and he beat me all over the place. 60-120 he maybe pulled 1-2 cars on me but over 120 it was bye bye... I had 1 99 SE 5 speed stock and wasn't used to losing to another 4 door sedan. HUmbled me a bit.

Don't worry too much about it. The deck was stacked against you. I walked my friend's 95 VTEC lude after 100 in my parent's E420 Sport. Wasn't even close. After 100 I started pulling car lengths on him. Your 5-speed won't help
you much against a 430 or a 420 sport.. since they have 5-speed auto trannies. You lost to a 4 door sedan that costs twice as much as your car.. Its okay.. =P Racing a 420/430 is pretty close to racing a BMW 540i.. You're not going to win..

correction

it was dark and i couldnt see the badge correctly, and mercedes' nomenclature system is all f'd up anyway

It was a CLK430, not a CL. The CL is the big expensive pimp convertible. The CLK is the new coupe based off the E-class I think. SWEEET car (drool)

there is no CL430.
only 500 or 600. for a 500, they have ~320hp and does 1/4m in 14.6 i think.

that's the way it should go down.
with a 5sp and a good driver, it's possible to hang 0-60, after that they will pull, above 120 they are gone.

ugh.. wrong again.
CLK is teh big bimp convertible, also has a coupe trim. and they are off the ex-C class chasis.
CL is coupe only, no convertible, and a LOT more expensive than CLK. btw the AMG CL55 was the safety car at the F1 race.
