help on removing vinal tape on door pillars

I am sure many of you out there are experiencing this too, the black part on my door pillars is fading, and it looks like crap. I want to take the tape off, but I'm afraid the paint is going to peel off w/ the tape. Is this going to happen? because if so, then I'll deal with the faded black rather than peeling paint.

No, it won't peel the paint. I did it, just have to take off the sticky stuff.

i did mine a week ago and love it. i took an exacto knife and cut the vinyl tape under the weather strip and peeled it off. the sticky stuff was really tought to get off. i rubbed it with my thumb until i got a blister. then i remembered that wd40 breaks adhesived down. spray w/ wd40 and it will scrape off a lot easier than w/o it. just spray and scrape with your fingernail or a popsicle stick or whatever. a lot easier. do not try a clay bar, it doesn't do crap for that stuff. just ruined my bar for nothing.

yeah... i did the same thing... blisters suck. and i tried every adhesive remover on earth, nothing worked better than a dry terry cloth towel. but since i didn't search first... i believe it has been posted that to best get the tape off is to use a heat gun. i'm pretty sure this will work b/c when i did the second side, my car had been in the sun all day, and when i pulled the tape off the driver door, it all came off... adhesive and all. so go rent a heat gun, or use a hair dryer and give it a shot.

honestly i doubt it will work. the adhesive is stuck on a lot more than road tar is. like i said, wd40 really does work. but like jmaxima said, try to heat it first. if you want to use an adhesive remover you probably need to get something like goo gone or oops.
but one word of advice, if you have dark tinted windows, i think it looks better with the black vinyl...unless it is really faded. the dark vinyl kinda carries the whole dark color scheme from the front to the rear of the car. if you have a titanium tint or no tint, take that crap off.

A heat gun is the easiest way to do this. If you're lucky and you heat it well enough, you can get the vinyl off in one peel.

I did mine about 2 months ago, yeh really a pain in the a$$. Used hair dryer, goo gone, and a credit card to scrape off the glue.

Definitly use heat gun/hair dryer first, then goo gone for the rest.

There are some good directions as well as a link to a thread in the 4th gen FAQs about this subject. Check in there for more info.

is everyone talkin about the bars that run on the side of the car, 1/2 down the doors? i have a beige car, and mine faded to a light green, looks horrible.

BTW, it may not be healthy, but i used gasoline on a rag to get the sticky off the truck after shaving emblems. it worked much more gooder than goo-gone

No... I'd call those rub rails, but i think thats a boat term... they are talking about the B pillars, between the front and rear windows... they are covered with black vinyl that can be removed to reveal body color paint...
