Bigger isnt always better.
There are compromises in everything. A Bigger wheel can equal more weight, a larger contact patch to the road equals more friction/resistance. All this can eqaul a slower drive. Not to mention harsher rides, road hazzard dangers,(bent wheels, etc). If you are in it for looks, go bigger than 17. If you want it all, 17's should be good enough.
IMO also, anything larger than 17 looks too big on the gen 4 Max, like it is a rollerskate...

I think I remember seeing something in Sport Compact Car where they tested different tire and whhel combos (Same types, different sizes) and the 45 series tires actually cornered the best. I know my car will kick out a little bit if I hit any kind of bump in a high speed turn, which is somewhat scary. Plus, as JettmiesterMax said, bigger wheel = more weight, which ultimately equals a slower car. But in the looks department, I feel bigger is always better. I think I'd go with an extremely lightweight 17 if I had it to do again.

So If I want to have the best ride quality, I should just move from the stock 16's to a 17. It sounds like 18's aren't very ride friendly...
