I have an automatic '98 SE and have been thinking about getting an intake installed to improve performance, but don't have enough money to blow on something that doesn't make a marked difference. I won't know if it's worth it until I've spent the money, unless someone out there can fill me in on the relative speed/performance/horsepower increase on their own cars. Thanks for helping out a poor guy that doesn't know jack about cars.

What kind of performance are you looking to get with the intake? off the line? highway speeds? 70-110mph pulls? 1/4mile track runs?

I have a 98 SE auto. I have the intake because I need something to help increase my top end power. The intake is not gonna blow you away, but it definitely works. If you never drive fast, then dont get an intake. Speeds under 60mph, stock intake and aftermarket intakes are prolly the same.

 

Thanks for the input. Honestly, I'm not trying to trick the thing out or turn it into a speed machine, so all of the concerns you brought up are a little ahead of me (and my wallet); I just want to make driving it a little more fun. Thanks again.

 

So if that helps high-end power, what intake would help lower end power? Or any mod that would help you get off the line quicker?

Hello??? Does CAI = cheap??? Think not!

Cheapest way is to do you own piping for $15, get a K&N cone filter and bracket, probably around $60 total. And it'll make your driving more fun and easier on your wallet as well. You'll lose bottom end with the cone, but it is widely suggested that the piping will bring your bottom end back. If you don't want to DIY, here's what a lot of people are going after on ebay...

It's probably a bit more than you want to spend, the seller used to sell the combo for $99, he raised his price recently.... I think.

for me, intake is about
1. Sound - very important to me, the deep V6 sound
2. performance - second
3. style, looks - third

 

You get all three of those when you get PRCAI.
