What "should" a brake pedal feel like?

I got my brakes done the other day and they stop well and everything but my question is this: my brake pedal feels a lot thicker and heavier than it used to. Is this normal? Thanks in advance.

The biggest factors that would affect your pedal feel in this case would be a different pad compound than was on the car before and whether or not the brakes were bled. If there was air in the system and they were bled, this would lead to a firmer feeling pedal. This would be a good thing. IMO, mushy pedals=bad.

My pedal is a little mushy, but its not that bad. But when i test drove my bro's Lexus SC400, there was a HUGE difference. His had NO mushiness, and was very responsive. I think its caused by the lines the brake fluid travels in, when the pedal is pushed, the lines expand. Thats why people buy braided brake lines, to decreased the mushiness. If im wrong- please correct me.

It completely depends on your setup, but, as mentioned, the less mushy the pedal, the better.

SS lines cause a firmer feel, yes, by preventing too much expansion which can lead to air in the lines.
