brakelight wont turn off

brakelight wont turn off

anyone kno any reasons why the brakelight might be going on in my 97 auto when the brake is not engaged?? i havent used the parking brake in a couple of weeks and the last 2 days when i have started the car it hasnt turned off. could this be some type of sensor problem?

If what you mean is that the brake lights on the back of your car are always on even when your car is parked, then, your problem is probably a small plastic piece in your brake pedal. This plastic piece is what normally activates the brake light switch in most cars. Just look in the floor of your car below the pedals, its very probable you will find it there broken. Just take it and go to an autoparts store with it to get a replacement.

The sensor for the parking brake is located at the brake handle, under the console. Try wiggling the brake handle and make sure it is all the way down. If you still have a problem then check your fluid and brakes. I'm not certain if the light will come on w/ low fluid but I'm pretty certain it will come on if there is a problem w/ the brakes in general. Hope it's just your parking brake sensor. Good luck.

The fluid level in your master cylinder is low.
