Hey guys,

I got 97 GLE and wander how Max holds on the long run? When can I expect to see body rust, if I live in Ohio. With winters like now I don't even have a chance to wash my car anymore. Every following day brings more salt on the roads then previous. When mechanical problems start to pop up? What goes first?

I live in Ohio

Hey-
I live south of Cleveland, Ohio about 40 miles. I have has my car for 6.5 years (one of the first 95's). I have nearly 64k on it and have no rust at all on it. It really looks as good as it did from day one. Now...the front end got chipped up a bit, but I had that repainted last spring and the shop did an AWSOME job; cost me $200.
I have had to replace the battery, front brakes and an O2 sensor and that is it. I try to wash the car every time its above freezing and not snowing. I wax it once a month in the winter and every three in the summer That might be a bit much, but that might alsot ell you why the thing looks so damn good!

Where at in Ohio are you?

Live in IA and use to live on border of SD, IA and NE in BFE! Anyways. not a drop of rust on my car and I live in at least as bad weather conditions as Ohio would experience. Hasn't been above freezing here since early November! Oh wait my hubcaps deteriorated from the sand and salt and I got new ones-that's it. My muffluer and exhaust is still good (darn!).

I've got a 91 GXE with almost 112K on it. One spot of rust on the rear passenger door where the window and door intersect...where the window trim meets--that's about a cm. sq. total size and one spot on the rear drivers door surround by the wheel well. Nothing on the bottoms of the doors or anywhere else. Not too shabby for it's 9th Michigan winter. My old '87 POS Taurus looked like hell after 80K--there was rust everywhere on that thing.
