question about wiring and inline fuses

can i safely run 8awg to a 1 farad cap, then run 4awg shortly to a distribution block, and then run 2 8awg to 2 separate amps? if so, my 2 amps have 80a fuses each, what inline fuse do i need for my 8awg?

If each of your amps require 80 amp fuses... no. An 80 amp fused amp more than likely requires 4 guage wire. You can run 0/1 guage to a distro block, then run 4 guage to a 1 farad cap, then 4 guage to the amp.

Also, if the amp requires an 80 amp fuse, then chances are good it's a high power amp. You'll need 1 cap per amp at that point.

This is all based upon what you've posted. Reply with the amp manufacturer and model AND sub manufacturer and model. With that information, we can inform you a little better as to how to wire it all up safely.

ok, right now i am running 2 amps: 8awg (30a fuse just melted after 7 years of use)-> ppi 2x100 bridged to single JL 12W3dvc
and 8awg-> alpine v12 4x50.

i am upgrading to 2 ppi power series amps, pc2400 2x100 (will power single JL), and pc4800 4x100.
i have a dist block and 1 farad cap coming along. i really dont want to rewire the power but im thinking ill definitely need to upgrade to 4awg. ugh, whadda pain. maybe i can run everything 8awg???

as for the inline fuse, i searched the topic on many sites. the general consensus is that inline fuses protect the wire its on, not so much the amps. this is based on wire gauge. i found a great site explaining some fuse/wiring details if anyones interested:
