2nd (Replacement) Starter Failed After Only 9 months

I had the normal grinding noise that others have experienced on cold starts with my Max. After trying everything else I finally had the starter replaced last Mid-December. The problem was solved. This morning the replacement starter failed as well. The car will not start without a jump now. The dash lights, headlights, and readio all work. So it is not the battery. I am wondering now if the problem is indeed the starter, or another underlying problem (maybe electrical) with the 95gxe. Does anyone have any insight? Or has anyone had the same experience? Please let me know.

Just because your lights work don't think that your battery has to be good; it takes a lot of current to turn over the starter motor.

Clean the battery terminals and battery posts. It doesn't have to be covered with white crud to be corroded. Lead oxide is a very good insulator; clean the battery terminals with a wire brush until they are shiney. Also, check the water level of the battery and top off as necessary with distilled water.

If that doesn't work, take your battery out and have it tested at AutoZone.

I jump-star works, then your problem is insufficient voltage/cuurent. If the starter was bad then it wouldn't respond to a jumpstart, IMHO.

Maybe a bumpstart...

I agree. Why would a jump-start help a bad starter? It probably wasn't fed enough juice. Definitely look into the possiblility of bad wiring (both ground and + leads) and a weak battery. Make sure the battery has enough fluid in each cell. You can also have it tested for free at Autozone.

excellent advice... now go a step further. Check the wires that connects to the starter. Those may be corroded and need replacement. Just cehck the wires goin from battery -> ignition -> starter. I bet you anything you're problem lies there. good luck!
