dust boots nessasary ??

Does anyone know if you have to put in dust boots when you replace your stuts. the stock ones that were on there before were all cut and torn so i just cut them off. But never put new ones on... are they completely nessasary..

nec·es·sar·y Pronunciation Key (ns-sr)
adj.
Absolutely essential. See Synonyms at indispensable.

If that's your definition they aren't "necessary" per se. However, the life of your struts could be greatly diminished due to dirt, etc. There are a few people on here who don't have them, but for the extra $40 or so it's probably worth the extra life on your struts.
