Pleasant surprise with Raybestos Quiet Stop Pads

I was just checking out the new Raybestos Quiet Stop Pads that I plan on installing this Friday. There are wear sensors for every wheel, both front and rear. This is in contrast to OEM Pads which only come with a wear sensor for the right side. For the price of the OEM pads you would think Nissan would provide a complete solution.

Tim,

If you want me to order and get the things for you let me know.

In addition, you can order them through partsamerica, you just have to pay shipping....

I will have to pull out the stops for this...

I sold those at Pep Boys and they told us the warranty from Raybestos changed about 8 months ago...

that they do not offer free replacement on worn pads...

warranty is only against manufacturer defect on all pads except 1 yr standards and 2 yr labor charges on the QS pads...

So unless there is something else that the parts sore you shop at is offering in addition to Raybestos, I think that stands...

They should lower the price then. Last time I checked they were $70 for the fronts... a good deal with free replacements for life but not so good for one set.

bill, I appreciate the offer.. thing is, the 815QS is very elusive. First off, Pepboys cant get it at all. I would order it from partsamerica, but I'm leary of ordering something that doesnt show as matched to my car. Plus, just about everywhere shows the 815 in organic, not ceramic - even when the QS is shown.. I know thats wrong, but I'm not sure which part is wrong -the part number or the description.

I'd order them up if I *knew* what I was going to get. Its kinda odd that way. I can get the 4g set at like 5 places around here.

Nissan is probably going to redo my fronts, leaving me only rears to buy, if thats the case (will know tomorrow), then problem solved for now.

Wow. I have these, and while they stop well, they dust A LOT for me.

I have to clean my rims almost once a week because of them. i have these on the front and OEM's on the back.

After 2 weeks my front rims are nearly black and the back are barely dirty.

Odd, I thought they suppose to dust much less? I have them for the front, and hardly notice much brake dusts. The only complaint I have is they do squeak. I didn't put the blue goo thing on though.

i put the goo on there, they don't squeak at all.

but yeah, they dust like mad.

it seems my car is an opposite car, and does the opposite of what it does on anyone else's car, however.

Alrighty Tim. But remember, the PGD653QS and/or PGD430QS pads will work just fine on the front:

And if you doubt me just ask Russ.

Nissan is going to give you Customer Service?!?

ya know, I'll give props to Russ on doing the writeups and all, but I think I'll stay on spec with my front brakes. Call *me* crazy... I'm sure they work fine, but I'd rather just do stock or Porters than put in a smaller pad.

Yeah, as for the rears, I'm all over that. Pep Boys should be able to take care of that.

The Porterfield 430 series are identical to any other 430 series pad out there (at least OEM, EBC Greenstuff, and Axxis Metalmasters for sure as I have seen them all in person). I don't understand where your perception of going out of spec is coming from.

Kev has made Timeeeeeh crazy.

4th gen front pad <> 5th gen front pad.

There is a small diff in pad size and there is a diff on the clips. It can be made to work. But I dont want any squeal or reduced pad area.

Ok, cool. But why even consider the Porterfields?

Holy Sh*t! I thought I was the only one with the Raybestos QS "low-dust" pads that had this problem. My rear OEM pads dust hardly anything, but after 5-6 days, my front rims are almost black. I think I'm going with OEM front pads when I change my rotors in about a month. This dust is so annoying, I love the silence though.

Are your rotors cross drilled and / or slotted? Just curious.

Yeah that I already knew. What I'm saying is that the dust is way too heavy and way too dark. OEM pads dont have blkack dust, and also dont dust a lot. These Raybestos pads are ceramic and arent suppose to dirty your rims that much, but they do.
I know how braking works, that's not the issue...

The front wheels are dusting more because they supply about 70 % while the rear wheels supply about 30 % of the braking force under heavy braking. The front brakes work harder, thus dusting more.

Ummm...no. I had OEM pads on before and while yes, they dusted more than the back, nothing like this.
