Hand brake problem question...
Hand brake problem question...
I put my car on jackes the other day to rotate my tires. I found out with my hand brake up my rear driver side doesn't lock up (I could still spin it with the tire on..) whats the deal?? I looked on some website and it said that when jacking up the car sometime it messes up the brake line depending on where you place the jack so I checked and everything was normal.. so what could be the problem?? how to fix?
Also, I have to lift my hand brake really high to have it engage and I even follow the instructions on the Haynes manual to tighten the brake line.

There is a left & right e-brake cable. Each connects to a rear caliper. On the other end, both cables are hitched up to a "balancer". From there, another cable connects the balancer to the hand-brake lever. My left cable inside the jacket was seized up from dirt/crap that got inside through the torn boot. As a result, the left caliper was grabbing the rotor. I occasionally ran with a hot rotor which I could smell too. I ended changing the left e-brake cable altogether & had the brake lever re-adjusted. I had the Nissan dealership do the work.
I was warned that until I changed out the cable, I shouldn't tighten up the brake lever b/c it would only cause the caliper to grab the rotor even more which would really kill the rotor from excess heat.
Good luck with this!

I think you were probably reading www.motorvate.ca The potential problem is that the "arms" of a hydraulic hoist might squash the e-brake cable. It's not a concern with a little jack (<3 tons).
I had a simliar, if not exact, problem as you a month ago. My problem turned out to be a torn boot on the left e-brake cable. You should be able to inspect the condition of the boot if you remove your wheel.
