My budget is $10k, so I'm looking for a sticker price of around $9k and leaving the $1k for tax, registration, insurance etc.

My dillema is that in the $9k price range I can either get say a 97/98 base GXE with 40/50 k miles, or 97/98 Loaded GLE/SE with 90/100 k miles.

Once the money is spent I'm really not going to have any remaining for repairs, what sort of repairs did you guys have to get done at around 100K miles?

Any other advice would be appreciated.

P.S I'm only looking at '97+ and automatic, prefrably black.

 

I'd say get a loaded car, those little features make all the difference. But don't get an automatic!! You'll regret it later, you want a five speed my man.

 

i'd say go with the GXE with lower miles...who knows what the car's been thru since u're buying it used...but the car might be in better condition if it has less miles..know wat i mean.

And if you get the Max with 90/100 miles, a transmission rebuild could be on the horizon...

 

My '91 Celica that got totalled it was a 5-speed, and it made the hours spent in a traffic jam that much more worse. Why would I regret an automatic?

BTW I have no intentions of doing any mods, well may be except for tints and white ligts, my day of speeding and mods are gone
I'm looking at the maximas as it dosen't look like your average boring family sedan.

 

Any more opinions on what probs I may run into with a car that has 90k miles?

At how many miles have any of you guys had to rebuild the transmissions on your maximas?

It is really difficult to say which car will be better. Dont just go with the lowest mileage car because it could be the worst. This is the great dilemma of buying a used car. Just try to make the best possible choice and hopefully it will be a nice and trouble free car. One thing is for certain- Anything mechanical will breakdown at some point. I will say that Max's tend to be much more reliable than domestic and other foreign cars. Good luck with the car purchase.
