Love it
And of course, after I buy it and make them wash it really good and make it look nice....a wind storm comes up when driving home and blows dust everywhere...GAH!

Congrats!
Hey don't worry your car was going to get dirty anyways just think that now you don't have to wait in despair.
Are you going to modify your Maxima or not? Either way, be sure to check out www.CustomMaxima.com !
Hope it lasts you decades to come,
-Cyrus

Yeah - you might qualify for a free alternator due to the recent recall. I did (my alternator was dying too

Some more info:
It's dark green..whatever fruity label they give that color
It's an automatic, I don't really like to drive a 5 speed and I refuse to get something that I won't have fun in hehe. I will mod it eventually...not sure what yet. I want to get a rock/bug shield put on the hood and change the taillights. As for performance mods, I'm not sure if I will do anything yet.
Alternator recall...the VIN numbers are not in the range that I saw posted in the thread about that issue, though I will probably still have them check it out just to be sure.
I'm just glad that nobody got to it before I did. It was sitting right next to this big nissan dealership though so people looking for one went right there instead of to this place
I got a very good deal and even got them to throw in a 2 year extended warranty for zilch

Regarding keeping the car clean, its almost impossible to keep it perfect if you drive it in the real world. If it stays parked in your garage most of the time, then yes by all means do the Meguiars Three Step or some other all day wax job. But if you park it on your driveway, or drive a lot each day, you'll soon find that the novelty of keeping your car "perfect and clean" wears out.
I used to wash my car and wax it every week. Now I wash it every two week and wax it once every month, maybe every other month. I've used just about every type of soap and wax you can imagine, and from it all, I have found one truth....as long as you keep your car waxed, it doesn't matter how dirty it gets. Yes, you should clean off the bird droppings, etc... but if the car is dusty, let it be dusty. Because five minutes after you wash it, it will be dusty again (hence my sig, superblack dust magnet). Even with a super dusty car, the gloss underneath from the waxing keeps the car looking shiny from a distance, and at night, it looks sparkling clean (although I know it is really dirty and disgusting).

Your telling me there was a friggin recall on 97 alternators? I wish this had come before mine went out. That was about March of this year. I bought another one from a reputable chain of parts stores for $139 against the advice of the owner of a 93 max and 90 300zx and the alternator failed after a month and I got another one and it went bad too. I got tired of expending my energy installing crap hso I took the car to nissan and let them do it for 375 (alternator was 268 after core). I could not get my money back for second one that failed. Even if I could have I would have had no alternator for the core charge ($75). Still would have been nice to get These recalls aren't retroactive by any chance, are they? And how come I havenmt gotten anything in the mail about a recall?

There is just one little thing that bugs me about the car - the brakes squeak a bit. Only in city traffic or when slowly stopping from slower speeds. On the highway and coming to a stop from a faster speed (more pressure on the pedal), they are fine.
Is there a good way to fix this, or should I have the pads replaced and everything cleaned or what. Suggestions please

From consumerguide:
Trouble Spots
Automatic transmission: The original automatic transmission (model F04) shift solenoids allowed slipping and premature wear. (1997)

I posted this before but didn't get any one who had experienced probs with it.
I'm also looking into buying a '97 or '98

Check the wear on the pads, they might be fine. Sometimes you need to just add some of that brake pad goo to the back of the pads to keep them from vibrating when braking. I fixed my sister's Altima that way.
