Whats going on everyone? I just found this site, and I thought I'd introduce myself since I'll likely be begging you all for knowledge questions in regards to the 1996 maxima SE I recently bought (photos to come soon) All things considered this is a sweet car. I bought it off a family member who was using it as a commuter vehicle. It has over 250,000 miles! Like I said, all things considered this thing is in great shape. There are some things I want/need to check out first, before I can get to the fun stuff, and I thought I'd run them past you all to see if you had any input. FIRST, I am having problems starting the car when the cabin gets overly hot. If it sits in the sun for a few hours with the windows rolled up there's no sound, cranking, or clicking from the engine... nothing. I've been able to avoid this problem by cracking the windows wherever I park it, and since I live out in the sticks it's not a problem. I'd still like to know what could be causing it though. SECOND, the cruise control went out last week. is there a fuse for this? If so, where the hell is it!?!? thanks for you help

Your ignition switch is probably shot.

There is a fuse, look under the dash. There's also a relay in the engine compartment. Does the light on your dash light up when you turn the system on? If it does, then the relay works.

Does the light light up indicating the system is on, but the cruise doesn't engauge or hold speed?

Does it appear to engauge, CRUISE in green on your dash comes on, but again car will not hold speed? If thats the cast the actuator is probably shot.

A few more details please and I'll see if the Haynes manual says anything about the cruise system.

Re: Re: shout

When I turn the cruise system on (on the dash) the light comes on. If I enguage the cruise (on the steering wheel) nothing happens. While the light on the switch on the dash comes on the "cruise" does not come on. I hope that's helpful.

I have no idea how to fix your problem but welcome to the org. I have learned ALOT about my car in the time I've been on here. Good luck with your max.

Welcome! 260,000 is just broken in....

Don't know the answer to your problems, but let me be the first to suggest searching. The link is always in the upper right hand corner and chances are your problems have been already answered. Just remember to search if you have questions about anything because otherwise everybody gets all ****ed and the moderators lock your "Asked and Answered 1 Million Times" thread.

Good luck and congratulations on your purchase!

I'll have to extend a welcome to you as well.

I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima SE that I purchased new and it has 192,500 miles at this writing.

I've learned a lot of cool stuff on the .org. I hope you enjoy visiting here as much as I do.

I'm curious to know what you paid. With 250K, if it was over 3K, I think you got ripped. I can't sell mine with half the miles for $5900.
