Antenna for a 98 SE

I have been having problems with my power antenna. It seems that in the cold weather of Minnesota it doesn't work too well. I am wondering if there is a way to replace the power antenna with something else that is less hassle. Does anyone else have these same issues?

Just curious if it is even possible to do something else. If it is NOT possible, how easy is it to repair myself if all I needed was the mast?

Any help is much appreciated.

if it's just the mast, it'll cost ~$24 from ebay and it's a 15min job, possibly shorter.
If your antenna still runs and u decide not to keep it, I'm interested. Lemme know.

just disconnect the wire that brings the antenna up, you probably wont notice any differences in reception.

yeah, since we're priveledged enuf to have a "diversity antenna", missing 1 probably won't be so bad.

I think you can get a VW/S2000/IS300 type antenna.

I had similar problem with my '99. The antenna motor was too weak to raise the the antenna, but was able to lower it. I took antenna out of car it, raised it a little by hand, unplugged the motor, reinstalled it. Now I can raise and lower antenna mast by hand.
For your information, the FM reception stays about the same with or without rear antenna, but AM (I listen to sports)is useless with out the rear antenna.
A new antenna is @ $125.00. Will replace mine one day, not a priority right now.
Good luck.

Try cleaning and lubing the mast. I use a silicone spray to lube it; it seems to last longer and not attract as much dirt as WD40.

Where could I get my hands on one of those? Would it be best to go to a car audio store or to the dealer?
