Some 4th Gen high speed pics for ya...
I took these last October in/near Death Valley in my non-modded 98 SE 5-speed with Kumho Ecsta tires...

I actually got the speedo to read 143 but getting a pic at that speed was challenging...
Let me just say that going that speed is not very wise and in is quite eerie...

Hi speed PICs
Now that's what I call a road trip! Awesome road. Nothing like that here in the NorthEast.
Interesting how one PIC has the fuel gage at 3/4 and then the next is at half. The Max really drinks at speed! Ask me how I know!

Here is one of the roads
Well my gauges are different because I topped it out twice. I was on a 5000 mile road trip(alone).
Yeah the speedo only goes up to 140 but the needle was past it - I approximated it to 143, but that is the speedo. Who knows the actual speed.
As far as the roads, out west there are lots of these, but as you'll see below a couple near Death Valley are spectacular. Long, straight, and slighly inclined roads are common..
Here's a pic. I turned around just to get a pic of the road I had hit 143 on(I had just come from the other end up in the mountains there
)

I would try to max out my 3rd gen but there is no places in NYC area like that. 108 or so was my highest

My doctor told me to do it!
Well, sort of. We concluded that I have been too risk oversive the past 10 years and that I needed to take some risks.
I don't think this is what we had in mind but what the heck..
My road trip was from Houston Texas heading west. Stopped in SW New Mexico to visit my Dad, then Tucson AZ to visit relatives, then Phoenix to visit a friend(and get my Kuhmos since Discount tire is hq'd there), next to the mountains outside L.A. to visit relatives, L.A. to visit friends, San Diego to visit relatives, Big Sur, Monterrey, Cali to sleep over(and party), San Fran to visit my brother and an old HS buddy, Yosemite national park, Death Valley, Las Vegas(never been there), Hoover Dam, the Grand Candy(as I called it when I was 3), Petrified Forest, Roswell NM, Carlsbad Caverns, and then back home.
Oh, for some spirited driving you gotta do Big Sur and that road heading east into Yosemite. Those roads were awesome. I was hitting 10mph curves at 35mph+ which is MUCH safer than 90mph in a 45mph curve, unless of course you go over the cliff! In October the traffic is very light so it is a great time to hit those roads hard. In summertime the traffic sucks I hear.
The trip was great - something I always wanted to do..
Oh and yes there were NO cars near Death Valley except some copper who got me going 'over 85'.. I was actually going 92 cause that's as high as my cruise would go.. The fine was only $76..
If you want to see more pics(of the trip) let me know and I'll post a URL once they all get scanned in.
