Intake manifold question

Hey everyone! My 4th gen just got totaled so I found a beautiful 5.5 gen with low miles. Anyway, I'm looking around to find an intake manifold for better breathability at hi rpms. On my 4th gen gen I did the mevi which really helped. I live in California so it has to pass visual for smog. I was wondering if the 7th gen IM is a direct bolt on for the 5.5 gen? It's plastic so it will shave a fee pounds and is it redesigned for better breathability at high rpms? Thanks for reading this, hope to get some good input.

I doubt the 7th gen would fit. What you can do is gut the inside wall of the intake manifold (ssim) which will give you better airflow and an increase in higher rpm power. Or you can shell out $700-$1,000 for a kinetix intake manifold.

A few have done this and didn't mention anything about modifications to fit, so it's safe to assume it's plug and play.

Worst case might be the lower intake manifold needs swapped with it, but I doubt it.

PM Schmellyfart.
I know he has done it.

I've read about people swapping for the 7th gen intake but I don't remember what the results were. A search should turn something up.

A quick and easy trick is to remove the variable air intake flap/assembly and cover the hole with a block off plate. It doesn't throw a code and you can put it back any time you want.

Intake manifold question

But if you remove the vias with the block off destroy low end power?

Not that I was able to notice. Certainly not more than a high flow intake would.

7th gen manifold is not a direct fit, look up greyy99max build thread in the nitrous section. All of the info is in there. As far as I know hes the only one that has just swapped the intake manifolds.

The 7th gen intake manifold weighs the same as a 5.5gen manifold with NWP Block off plate.

Just remember, everything is a tradeoff. If you want more top end power, you are more than likely going to need to sacrifice some low end power. Both the SSIM and BOP will increase top end power at the cost of low end power, the SSIM being more drastic and irreversable (without buying another manifold).

Lastly, I wouldn't waste money on a kinetix or SFR manifold.

Some details: https://maxima.org/forums/all-motor/...altima-im.html and here: https://maxima.org/forums/nitrous/61...out-doing.html

If your Maxima is stock and 4AT, I would suggest against this or if anything extending the rev limit for any of these mods. BOP would be my suggestion if extended rev limit was an issue.
