Anyone cut their OEM shifter rod

I replaced my 01 Shifter **** with AE one and now i wanna cut the oem shifter and rethread it or cut and weld. Any ideas? I know there is a write up on how to remove stuff, which i can do, but what's better cutting and weld back or cut and rethread? anyone did this ? i know most people just went and get the short throw ones from stillen and other places, but i wanna keep the stock rod ..

Shorter shifter

I have a 2K SE and I shortened the OEM shifter by 1 1/4 inches by cutting the top off with a hack saw. I replaced the shifter **** with an aftermarket black leather **** that has three set screws- no threads. I put lock tight on the set screws to secure them and it has been fine for over a year. The thread diameter is quit a bit smaller on the stock shifter than the base and I'm not sure how you will cut new threads on an oversized rod?

i had a shortened OEM shifter for a while but now i have a Pacesetter STS.

i didn't rethread the OEM rod, i have a MOMO shifter which doesn't require any thread on a shifter to be installed. it's simply screwed on the rod.

thanks guys..
ok so you are saying that if i cut off the top of mine and i don't wanna rethread it, then i can use aftermarket shifter? well can i see a pic of your shifter **** or pics on the net that requires no threading? . If i do this, which i think is easier than rethreading, then i can sell my AE **** and buy one with screws like yours or irvine78's

Re: Re: Shorter shifter

I believe I got the shifter **** at Pep Boys for $20-25. It is black leather with small perforated holes. My SE has cloth perforated holes in the cloth seats so it matches.
