Generic Scan Tool for 2K2 Needed in NYC Area

Does anyone have a scan tool that will work with a 2K2 in the NYC area? I am having some problems and could really benefit from the use of the tool . . .

Alternatively, does anyone know where I could purchase a cheap generic scan tool that is known to work with 2K2's?

Do you have a laptop?

I don't have one yet so I haven't bought any packages yet but some people here have used the last one from Alex C. Peper. Try a search you should find some info on this.

Maximaman: I am familiar with these scan tools, but for some reason I thought there might be some compatibility issues with the 2K2 and later vehicles? I am currently searching the .org for threads on this topic. Thanks!
