PCV valve

I just read that PCV valve need to be replaced every 12 month, pr 12,000 miles. Does it apply to maximas? Where can I find it in my 2K? Should I get the part from dealer or any store? Is it difficult to change it?

Not difficult to change. I swapped mine out a little before 60K. The location is a bit tricky to describe in words....

Get the part from your dealer.

I think I have an idea where it is. If I take a picture of it do you think you can ID it for us. I was thinking about thhis as well. I tried to take it out and the PCV valve seem difficult to access without removing other stuff and a little bit hard to take off.

Yup, take a pic and I can point it out.

Use pliers.

Yes, you guessed right. Pull like hell, and it will pop out. Lube the new one with some oil so it slips in easier. A long screw driver to push it the last little bit helps too.

When should I change it? At how many miles? As for using the screwdriver to push it in, wouldn't that break the PCV valve? Or is it strong enough? Also when you say lube it with oil, I can use the motor oil right? Or do I need some special type of oil. Thanks for the response.

I check mine every 20k, I clean it with carb cleaner, gas will also work. If the valve inside moves freely after cleaning (test by shaking) then I reinstall it. I usually replace the PCV Valve at 60k.
I buy a new PCV Valve from dealer, the ones I tried from auto parts stores did not appear to fit as well. By popping top hose out of bracket you should be able to easily pull it out. Using screw driver to help seat PCV Valve should not hurt it. I usually use a light film of synthetic oil or silicon grease to lubricate PCV Valve. If you don't have them dino oil will do.

Releives pressure in engine crankcase so you don't have oil leaks due to blow by gasses. Also reduces pollution, crankcase gases are burned by engine rather than venting them directly into atmosphere.

for some reason, I had the impression that there were two PCV valves... two banks of cylinders. But then one bank could be vented to the other one by a rubber hose on the belt side of the engine?

Only 1 per Maxima. Other bank vents via crankcase and oil return holes in head.
