I will be painting my calipers red this weekend but had a quick question. I bought the Folia Tec paint kit and was wondering if I should remove the calipers or just paint them with a brush while still attached to the car. For those of you that have removed the calipers was it really difficult to do? And for those of you that didn't remove the calipers did it come out ok? I suppose you can only paint the outside if they are still on the car. Please respond with whatever info you could supply me with. Thanks so much.

 

You can just leave them on. It is much easier plus plus you get about the same results. I would recommend a small brush, like for modeling, for getting into the tight spots.

 

I bought a can of VHT high temp spray paint for $7. Taped the caliper carefully on the car and sprayed away. I did it on two cars over a year ago, still looks new, and I just did my '02 this week. After you are done, drive it around using the brakes to get them "baked" on to a hard finish.

 

I also used VHT Caliper Paint (Cast Aluminum). I took calipers off, cleaned them then put the back on without the brake pads. I also removed and washed the metal clips and metal plates that go on brake pads. I covered the rotor and everything else I didn't want painted. I let it dry to the touch. Then reinstall the brake pads and metal clips. Then let it dry for about an hour then drove around. They look good so far.

 

Has anybody done or considered putting the word maxima on their calipers after being painted? Corvettes have them, so i was just wondering if anyone had done anything like that.

 

I will be painting my calipers in about a week with SILVER Folia Tec paint and had planned to paint some words on them with a different color.

Haven't decided on the words yet: either Maxima, Stillen (since I have their x-drilled rotors), or something else. Once done I will post some pics.

 

No need to take them off. Just wrap the rotor with newspaper and cover any other areas you don't want painted. Buy some brake cleaner too to get off all the dirt, and you can also use it to get paint off any areas you don't want painted. It works real well.

 

I took mine completely apart & cleaned everything. I put the caliper losely on the hub without any hardware on it and painted it with the Folia Tec system. Let it dry for a few hours then put all the hardware back on. It gives a more detailed look to it. Everything is contrasted, the hardware, pads ect...

Has anyone with a white max thought about doing the calipers white ? I was thinking about doing it but wondered if anyone had a pic so I could scope it out.
