My CF hood pics

it came the other day. the actuall weave is good, very straight, Ive check every inch of the hood and its almost perfect, the front where it bends down (over the headlight) is kinda scuffed on one side, but it will get fixed whn I have the hood clear coated.

I have gotten about 7 hoods for customers and this is the best quality out of all of them.

Ill let you know how it fits when I bring it down to the body shop, next week.

btw the car is comming along, as of friday the had all the metal work done, I took a peak on sinday while the car was parked in the back as I drove by, and the shaved trunk was done well. they used three peices of metal to do it. (one for the face and two to bend the sides so it looks closed.)

the antenna is also shaved and that looked good as well.

it should be primed by friday if it isnt already , then its got to sit for a few days and then its paint time, I havent decided the exact color but its going to be some kind of red pearl. so hopefully by next friday ill have my car back

Wow that's an excellent looking weave. Let's hope it fits as good as it looks. I guess you found out that it's not really clearcoated? Or are you clearcoating just for precaution/peace of mind?

Also, what shipping company brought your hood? UPS, FedEx, USPS, independent and did they call you first or it just showed up?

Sorry for all the questions.

Bax Global, Connie told if I went with them it would be direct or something and only take three days, it took more then a week, and make sure she gives you a shipping number or dont belove them.

not sure if its clear coated, but I havent been able to talk with someone who knows, at fiber images. and I doubt I will talk to someone. so Im gonna clear it anyway since it wont cost me. since my car is in the shop they can use little tricks like aligning the hood by adjusting the fenders and what not so it should fit fine. and Im not using the old hood struts, Ill just lean the hood all the way back.(my freind does it with his all the time.)

Be EXTREMELY careful when doing that, as the hood hinges will contact the windshield. CRACK!!

been there, done that. fortunately it was on my parts car.. Then I got to have some fun with a baseball bat on my cracked windshield! ;-)

Unfortunately I have to buy another tranny first, but after that I would be seriously interested. Of course, by then you could decide to just keep the thing, but I will get with you then anyway. It would look good with my carbon fiber wing, especially once it's had a couple of clear coats and a nice waxing...

So have you put it on yet?

same price as the groupe deal $550($225+$225+$100s/h)...you send me $225(which was the intial payment I made in Feb.) and then I give FI your address and tell them to send it your way and you pay them the remaining $325.

yeah I did that when I put the current hood on, the body shop is gonna put a stopper or something to keep it from going that far back.

Nismo the actuall CF isnt too thick mabey 1/8"-1/4"

who ever said about the red with black kit, black makes it hard to see the shape of the kit and Im not really into the two toned look

Well I called Connie again and got the tracking number. They're shipping it through Alliance Air Freight and it should be here Tuesday. Ah I cant wait.

I'm definitely not gonna use the hood struts. That's asking for trouble.

I'm just gonna use one of those folding pivot arms that cars without hood struts use. Shouldnt be hard at all to find one from a different car to fit decently.

N34JZ....how much is it costing to get your hood clear coated?

I'm not understanding how using the stock hood struts is 'asking for trouble'. Anyone care to elaborate??
Thx...

the stock hood struts are meant for a 60+ pound hood

they would probably crack this hood in half since the front would be locked down and the back too, so to have all that force pushing up o the center isnt good, plus David said it takes two people to close it since its so light and the struts are meant for a much heavier hood

I see...
Makes sense to me. So what do you do to keep it from flipping all the way up onto the windshield? What kind of 'stops' can you put in to keep it from doing that? Also, are you going to put in a hood prop or something?

I honestly have no idea. I was gonna wait for some of you guys to do your pins first so I could kinda sit back and see what I liked the best before doing it.

I think I want to get the locking ones w/o hoodpins....that use that little key. Not sure yet though.

Im really not worried about it, since theres not too many hooked up thrid gens by me and I know where most of them chill anyway.

plus they have to open the hood which means destroying it or poping the hood from inside the car, in which case my alarm would go off and a beat down would insue. plus I park it in my garage at night.

oh yes. after my car got broken into I put the gxe outside and the SE inside (was trying to keep the new paint on the gxe fresh because I was selling it) so every day I would get up move the gxe out of the way pull the se out and the put the gxe back in the driveway, but having not drivven the car for a couple of months the gxe needed a jump every monrning. then at night Id do the same thing to get the SE back in the garage.
