I was at the dealer today dealing with my car, and I asked the parts desk how much a Y2K muffler was. $375!!!! good lordy lord! My plans are to upgrade the exhaust, using a Cattman or that other company's Y pipe, maybe a RT cat, Courtesy B pipe, and Y2k muffler (also y2k manifolds, if they are any different). I know the Y2k muffler has to have its flange rewelded inorder for it to fit a 4 gen. Also, I have a 97, and I dont know if my car will need that 'extension' piece on the courtesy B pipe or not. I do have an O2 sensor behind the cat. My goal here is to free up the exhaust as much as possible, but not to make it any louder. Anyway, how much should a Y2k muffler cost?

The 2K exhaust manifold setup is identical to the 99's, which is MORE RESTRICTIVE than the 95-98s. It places the front pre-cat right under the front manifold, which presents a lot of backpressure closer to the exhaust ports, which hurts flow. I think the general consensus is that 99's are the slowest 4th gens, so I'd suggest keeping your (better) 97 manifold.

90% of the gain on the 2K engine is from the intake manifold. Everything else was pretty much done to support the increased high rpm flow from that intake. Filter box, muffler, fuel rail, eveything was done to support the new intake manifold.

Kevin97, he means just the Y2K muffler, not the entire catback. So, it won't be worse than the one he has now...but Eric, it won't be tons better either. Look for a used one on this site...I'm sure there are some people who took theirs off and want to sell...just post a WTB:Y2K Muffler ad in the for sale forum. Good luck...also, consider the HKS if you want quiet...I think it's less than the Y2K.

Your 97 will not need the extra extension piece on the B-Pipe since your car already has it. Take a look under your car right behind the cat, and you will see it.
