stock for stock, a 5 spd NA Z vs. a 5 spd Maxima is about even. The TT auto or 5 spd will spank any all motor Maxima. A S/Ced Maxima would be a few ticks behind a TT (run 13.9 to 14.4 stock with a decent driver). A S/Ced one would run 14.2 to 14.6, depending on other mods and driver.

You're lucky they didn't know how to drive.

Not the Maximas in the picture below! I don't think the one I raced is 5-spd, but I am pretty sure it was a TT. MUCHAHAHA

NO WAY!

My friend has a 95 300 Z, NA, 5-speed.

I took it out for a spin it, he told me not to redline it since he had just gotten it.(used).

well, my frined wasn't riding withe me.

and the conclusion is,
it does not compare with my 2k 5-speed.

The 300z engine doesn't want to rev. It definitely does not pull as hard as my Max. The VQ is much more smoother, and faster, and powerful.

I didn't know the VQ was that good, until I drove the 3Z.
but the 3z handles like it is on rails. IT IS AWESOME!!!

VG30DE doesn't want to rev?? come on.. my engine didn't come alive til it hit 4K rpm and revved strong all the way to 7200 rpm. I couldn't go one day without hitting 7000 rpm during my daily commute...

The VG motor on my 91TT >>>>>

loved to rev to 7200 rpm. I would hit the rev limiter really easy especially on an autox. The motor that your friend had that did not like to rev was either sick or he was afraid to rev it since he just got it. Drive a 300Z and you will see that it loves to rev just like the VQ motors.

a couple of months ago, I test drove a '94 N/A Z 5 spd, and to me it didn't feel it would pull as hard as my 3rd gen auto..
I said something to the salesguy (who, after 1 block and a hard corner at 30mph, was already sweating and looking for a way out of the car!) and he said "no way! this car will toast that old Maxima!"

After I got it back to the dealer (without a scratch, much to the salesguy's relief), we hopped in my max, and I stomped the gas.. salesdude screamed.
when we got back to the dealership, he immediately sent the Z to the service bay because he thought there was something wrong with it.
nope.. service guy brought it back out before I left and said it drove just like it did in '94.

soooo, I'd say your VQ is at least even with a N/A Z, if not a little faster.

heheh Ask Kaleb.. I'd scare the !@#!$ out of Steve Millen with my driving!

no, the car isn't THAT fast and probably wouldn't beat even the Z, but my car was close enough to the Z that even the dealer thought there was something wrong with it. coulda been though, who knows.
the car did seem to start to sound kinda rough above 5000rpm.. I shifted at about 5800, didn't take it to redline because it was sounding weird. almost sounded like the timing belt was 1 tooth off, so I didn't push it past that. next thing I know, I'm driving down the highway at 100 in the car, thinking I'm going 80.
it rode very smooth and handling was nice, but the engine just felt doggy.. I have a feeling there WAS something wrong with it and the mechanic didn't want to look for it.. but he said it drove just fine, so I dunno... ????
