A new Nissan car???

I work for a cargo company, and saw a peculiar package come in today. Actually, there were several similar ones in the last week or so, but this time I found out who it was from. The car is from Nissan, and the thing that caught my eye was that there were 20+ tires strapped onto the top of the crate. Yes, crate, meaning I have no idea what was inside the crate. This car was airshipped here from Japan, which is not uncommon. I've seen brand new Ferraris come in thru here, as well as the Audi A4 convertible and the Mazda "6" several months before it's introduction to the US. But those cars, including the 275000+ Ferrari 550 I saw, was strapped onto a pallet, not in a crate, so it was in plain view. I'm figuring that Nissan packed it up in a crate to hide it from curious eyes like me. I wouldn't think it was such a big deal, but when I took a closer look at the tires, they were summer only high performance tires. It looked like Bridgestone RE040s, but since I couldn't see the sidewalls, I'm not too sure. I felt the sidewalls with my hands though, and they seemed pretty low profile, amybe 40-45 series and looked about right for a 17 inch rim. I'm guessing this car is a frontwheel drive car, since all the tires looked to be the same height.

Now what car could this be? The final destination was Farmington Hills, MI, so it's probably going there to get testing done and/or get certified for U.S. govt. specs. This car was labeled vehicle number 6, and I have seen several come thru, so I'm assuming there are at least 6 of them here. My guess is that it could be the new Maxima, and that they are giving the SE version summer high-po tires, or maybe a new Sentra SE-R. But the thing is that both these cars will be made in the US now. Maybe Infiniti's I35? I thought I'd pass it along and see what you all thought. Any other thoughts?

The new Max will be built out of the Tennessee plant so there's no chance it's coming from Japan.

Maybe it's a Skyline imported by some guy?

Cool, hey I have a question for you. Have you been a member here long? I just became one and trying to find out some info on my max. I have a 02 SE and I want to find cheap floor mats and wanted to see if there is some way to get my fog lights to come on when I just have my parking lights on?? If you can help that would be great, if not do you know were I can get that info. Thanks Mike

Maybe its a new skyline? Those rims are much smaller than the concept cars rims though

So your guess is as good as mine.

Not that long but enough to answer your questions

1) Floor mats = Check out the Group Deals section of this site. JRNissan is selling everything for 30% off list price right now.

2) Fog lights = Check out the How-to section in the 5th gen section for instructions and photo's of how it's done.

That should get you started.

This thing was airfreighted to the US, so I don't think it's a skyline, nor is it for a personal buyer becuause on the box it said "test vehicle #6." That would explain why there were so many tires strapped to teh top of the crate, so as they wear out the tires during testing, they could replace them with identical ones to keep the data consistent. Also, Farmington Hills is just outside of Detroit, and there are many car testing facilities from all sorts of manufacturers, including imports, that have one there. Or like I said, it could be a govt testing facility that they sent it to to get certified.

get a fork lift, drive up to the crate, pretend you're dunk and crash into it breaking open the crate and exposing the vehicle...but make sure you have a camera and take lots of pics! cause when you get fired for doing that, you can sell the pics to SCC, C&D and all those other mags and become rich!!!!

Nissan's North American Technical HQ is in Farmington Hills, Michigan. It's only a few miles from my house and I've been there before.
