87 max engine situation
87 max engine situation
I need a new engine. I have found 2 both have had oil pressure problems. I was quoted that I could have a rebuilt engine installed with a lifetime warranty for around 3000. If I am going to have to spend that kind of money I would like to put somethin in my max that is possibly better than what I previously had. And no I don't have alot of money so need to be a lil reasonably about suggestions. Thankz in advance to any help or suggestions.
If anyone would like to see my car its in the
yahoo second generation club/under photos/neo max or lil max

You haven't seen Chillin's max have you? His car is sweet, he just got a nice paint job on it and a nice set of wheels. I don't think he should sell it after he's had all of that cosmetic work done to it, he's got one of the nicest looking 2nd gens in the world.
As for what performance stuff you can do for cheap, I'm not really sure there's much you can do. I'd just make sure you're getting a really good rebuilt engine. Make sure all of the gaskets, seals, bearings, hoses, and belts have been changed. I'd probably want the pistons changed too if I were getting a rebuilt and probably have the cylinder walls smoothed down. I'd probably also get the intake ported and polished. I'd also want the oil pump, water pump, and thermostat to be replaced as well as the exhaust manifold bolts. I'd also get new engine mounts as well. I'd probably also consider replacing most of the sensors, especially the hard to reach ones.
In short, try to find out how many parts they've replaced on this rebuilt engine. The stuff I listed is what I'd expect for $3K. Some people consider an engine with some oil and valve seals replaced to be 'rebuilt'. Also, try to find out how reputible they are, see if anyone had any problems in the past. Max88q just got a rebuilt in his car and now his cruise control doesn't work and there are some things that weren't connected properly, you don't want that to happen to you.
Also, talk to the guy that's doing the rebuild and ask him what kind of performance stuff he can do for you. Just about every part on the engine can be replaced with a performance one. You can get better cams, higher compression pistons, lighter connecting rods, reinforced pumps, stronger gaskets and seals, etc. But you can always do that stuff later too, your first concern needs to be getting your nice Max back on the road.

Yes everything Charles said. Im still hounding the problems. I also went there because they forgot to put the bottom plastic water/ skid
guard on the car. I confronted them and they said they didnt have it and there was no reason that they wouldve gone under the car. I told them the reason why they would and well they were in a corner then. And then I told them that I know they had my stuff tell me why I went looking around and found my plastic skid plates. Man I tell you what watch who you go to dont just go to anyone. Who knows what else of mine they have.
