Is it worth putting used stock struts as replacements?
Is it worth putting used stock struts as replacements?
I got a 98 Maxima SE and seems like the front stock struts are completly worn. A buddy of mine recently took out his stock struts (which has about 10,000 miles on them) with after-market struts.
If I'm going to replace my worn struts, is it worth it for me to use these struts from my buddy or should I just buy new ones? It seems like the labor is going to run about $500 that's why I'm asking.
I'm in LI, NYC...if anyone know a good place with good prices in the area please let me know. Thanks.

First off, dont pay for someone else to install them. Check the FAQ for a link to instructions for doing it yourself.
Second, if you dont have to pay for the OEM struts, it's a deal. As long as you think you will be happy with them. If you are using them as a stop-gap measure while you save for good aftermarket parts, then dont bother, just wait it out while you save.

Honestly, even if I read the FAQ, I think it's outta my league to put these struts in.
skeelo34: don't I also need to do an alignment after struts installation? That was what I was told from most mechanics. By the way, where are you located? For $100, it's a bargain!

If you look at the write-up, you'd be surprised how easy it is.
I don't get why people are so intimidated by working on cars. There isn't much that is actually hard to do. Most of it is just complex, with a lot of steps, lots of easy little steps...
I can probably read it throughly and understand it but if you think about it (getting the car mounted, the tools, the time, most importantly the safety) I would honestly just have someone else who knows what they are doing do it. I have a baby son and I want to make sure everything is done right that's all.
