motor and tranny mounts

Just curious, what would happen (if anything, minus a lot of vibrations) if you made the motor and tranny mounts solid? i.e. all metal, no rubber. Not that i would do this or anything but i just thought of it for some reason today while trying to get my pos shifter to shift correctly. Me and my dad were trying to make that rubber thing, that the support rod is mounted to, not move as much. I wanted to just weld a piece of metal on it to the f***er would stop flexing so much but since the motor and tranny mounts are rubber there is flex and that would cause a mess. I was just curious what would happen if the mounts were all metal so there was no flex.

you would tear the car apart in a matter of weeks.

remove the mounts and fill them with urethane so they're solid rubber. they won't flex much, but they'll absorb the large shocks in the drivetrain when you hit bumps or dump the clutch, etc.

If you make them out of metal, you can do some serious damage to the case on the engine and tranny. the tranny is aluminum, and I know two people that have snapped the bolts off in the case, or broken the tranny case itself because the mounts wore out and they shifted so hard that is snapped the bolts. (which isn't hard if you drive like I know many of you do).

there's lots of info out there about urethane mounts. do a search. I made some myself a few weeks ago, and they make a big difference in engine movement.

yeah, i am planning on doing the urethane mounts. From the sounds of people that have done them to other cars they are an awesome upgrade.
