tranny noise in 2nd (auto)

Hmm...I keep getting these weird ideas that the previous owner dogged my tranny.

Anyhow, see if you guys and provide some insight into this:
2nd gear...maybe around the 2k mark I start getting this weird sound. To describe, it sounds like something resonating...like something loose and vibrating; maybe like loose change on a washing machine in spin cycle? It's real faint and will get louder if I give it some juice, seems to only happen in 2nd. I tried to locate the damn thing but can't pinpoint it...I had my friend tonight try to locate it and he can't seem to put a finger on it, we thought it could be something loose but we tried alot to no avail. I finally got tired of slowing down and reving it up to ~3.5k and said screw it. So anybody here run into the same problem?

Also, tranny is shifting alittle hard from 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd...I'll be flushing it soon myself (screw the 200 charge from infinit) and will post updates on how it's shifting.

Thanks all,
John

I converted 97 I30 to AMSOIL Synthetic ATF, really quieted it down and made shifts even smoother, considering cost of tranny repairs I think it is worth a try.

I'm considering that. You think there's much of a difference compared to Mobil 1 synthetic ATF?

I have used AMSOIL ATF on 2 97s, have not had any experience with Mobil 1 but a lot of board members swear by it. IMO I think either synthetic one would do the job. You'll be amazed at the improvement it makes.
