It looks a lot more aggressive. I'm digging it. Subaru has also beefed up the trannies. 2003 WRX...hmmmmmmm

Anyone else think that front end looks like a hybrid of the IS300 and R34 Skyline. I like it alot.

No, the front end and headlights look like their WRC rival Mitsubishi Lancer.

If it was made by nissan, it would have 322HP and 7-speed tranny by now, or something like that. I am still fondest of the previous generation Impreza WRX...the one that we only got here as the RS model and not the WRX

I've seen pictures for the regular car, not the WRC one, and the front lights look like the 2003 accord, and it has altezzas on the back in the same shape the lights already are.

If i can find em i'll post em (dont think they'll be the final design)

doesn't look that different.... THe main thing is: did they fix all the driveline and mechanical frailties the cars seem to have?

Do the WRX's come with HIDs stock? B/C the ones i've seen around where I live all have these real nice looking HIDs. I was just wondering if I could put them into my Max.

Here some better pics:

The king of Britain's backroads is dead, a victim of its unconventional looks. Next February, the bug-eyed Subaru Impreza - which caused an uproar at its launch in October 2000 - will be replaced with a range of cars Auto Express can exclusively reveal here...

Set to make a dramatic world debut at this week's Paris Motor Show, the new Impreza line-up will be crowned by this sensational STi edition aimed directly at Mitsubishi's Evo VII.

With sycamore seed-shape headlamps and a bigger than ever bonnet air scoop, it's radically different to the model it succeeds and sports a look that is bound to cause just as much controversy.

Expected to cost less than £30,000 when it goes on sale in February, this all-new STi boasts improved aerodynamics, a more efficient turbo and uprated suspension. The cooling systems have been boosted too, thanks to the bull nose scoop and a reworked front bumper. There's still no official word on performance, but it's thought the UK engine spec is largely unchanged.

That means the standard models will deliver 265bhp from the four-cylinder boxer unit, and a Prodrive-developed kit will offer 300bhp with a top speed of at least 155mph.
Subaru's new six-speed gearbox continues to offer drivers a neat series of close ratios. Power is delivered to the all-wheel-drive system through limited-slip differentials on the front and rear axles. Suspension improvements include additional cross-bracing to stiffen the bodywork, and stronger mounting points to give more predictable handling. Inside, more changes are evident, including a thick-rimmed Momo wheel. The seats have new colour schemes, but the shape and size remain unchanged.

Subaru's engineers have clearly followed a kind of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' approach to improving the car, which should ensure that it remains a keen driver's delight. But will we be able to live with those headlights? Opinion in our office is divided, although there will be no shortage of volunteers keen to drive the car when it arrives next year. The king is dead. Long live the king!

Re: This might be my next car, the redesigned WRX

I am really looking at the WRX as my next car too. Hopefully, if I ever get a place of my own with my own garage, I'll be able to keep the max and have the WRX too. Maybe not the STi (too pricey?) but the regular WRX. That was before I looked at these new 2003 pics... Now it is a done deal! I definitely like the new cosmetic changes! To me, the headlights resemble the corolla somwhat. Correct me if I'm wrong but only the STi will have the beefier transmission/drivetrain.

IMO, i like the old look better, much more JDM style and it grows on you. The new headlight and taillight are too identical with many other cars, its simply following the trend.

I do like the new 2003 version, and look for it to be near th 300 HP mark as the Evo VIII is coming our way and after the STI wrx comes out the folks at mitsubishi will unleah another one.

the sport compact car is looking good right now

Still ugly and I will never buy a new sub. The only one I would buy is a $400 one to take in the woods and beat in the winter

I think the hood scoop on the STI is way too big even if it is functional.

Here are some decent higher-res pictures of the redesign. Go about 2/3 of the way down the first page of this thread.

http://forums.i-club.com/forums/show...hreadid=250559

I think it looks better, but there's still something wierd about it. I do prefer it to the EVO redesign.

I've always liked the WRX front but the new 2003 is sweet. I wish they would do something about the rear. It's OK, but I think more can be done wtih it to make it more aggressive like the front.

Just to clarify, the redesign will not affect USDM WRXs until the 2004 model year. Japan, and I think the rest of the world, gets the changes in the 2003 model year.

And I agree about the rear. The current WRX rear looks like it belongs to a Kia.

I wonder how much the new ones would be. As of right now, I would rather spend a little more money and get the 2003 EVO 8. I do like the WRX more, but it's a little shy in the power department compare to the EVO 8.

Either way it looks good to me. BTW-That is a 2K4, not 2K3. The 2K3 looks like the same as the 2K2.

SOA have already fixed the weak trannies by using new materials - or so they claim. The 2K3 transmission are so far built the best (not including the STi).

There are guys who push over 350-425AWHP on the stock transmission and have yet to miss a beat. Proper droving comes a long way.
