Any way to tell if odometer is showing true milage??
friend of mine just picked up a used 95 max. it says 65k on the dash, but the seat looks pretty worn out.. is there ANY way we could tell if the odometer is showing the true milage? like somethin on the computer??
what im looking for here is not suggestions that may give us a hint. i want a solid yes or not answer. i know someone here has to know if it can be revealed or not.. thanks in advance

i heard that on maximas.. there is no other way than just by the odometer and the ECU does not record milage
Things he can do is run a carfax report and find out it's previous history.. Everytime you take the car in for the yearly inspection, they record the milage over and it shows up on the carfax report.. Say the car has 65k but the previous reading shows 74k which is dated to a year ago, then you know it was rolled back since it's showing less now than it had a year ago.. However there is a way around it, you can roll back the milage a little bit every year or have the mechanic, if he's willing to do that.. record a false amount and then just roll it back as much as you want in the end.
You can look at the condition of the car and just estimate if it can be that beaten down after the amount of miles it was driven.. but that is not accurate at all cus you can abuse anything in 20k miles to make it look like it drove 150k miles.
So I doubt that there is any way, at least on a maxima
If there was, I'm sure everyone would know about it. Besides, the average person has no idea when he buys the car on how to do it.. most people don't even know what carfax is.. they just look at the odometer and condition of the car.

You're only option is CarFax.com. That's one of the first things you should have checked before purchasing a used vehicle. I hope it checks out ok, good luck.
