I'm in the market for buying my 2001 SE an intake system. I've decided that I want to go with a CAI, and nothing else. So now I just need to decide which brand CAI to get. I've been reading through all posts regarding both the Place Racing and Injen CAI's and I know that both are good intakes.

There are also disadvantages to both systems. With Place Racing you need to chop your car up in order to install it. While the Injen has the piping running along the side of the engine, which after time heats the piping, which defeats the purpose of having a CAI system. Cosmetically I like both intakes, but I lean more towards the Inejn intake. I've heard both, and both sound good to me.

I made this post to see which intakes different ORG members prefer. I want to hear what everyone says before I go out and order one or the other. If you vote in this poll, please post a reply stating why you voted for one or the other. Please don't post nonsensical comments or anything that has nothing to do with either of these CAI systems. My opinion is PR. I still dont understand the concept of the Injen because its still getting alot of heat from the engine so might as well get a midpipe. I think the only real reason for getting one is for the people who dont want to cut a hole in the fender.

 

I like the PR cause it looks good, and it runs the side where nothing except the battery is. While the pr requires drilling its unnoticeable, the injen goes to the middle and makes the engine look cramped! PR All the way!

 

Injen:

tubing runs right along side your motor, filter sits below your radiator. also cost more than PR CAI.

Place Racing:

tubing runs away from motor and isolates the filter in the fender, hense "cold air intake"

think about it!

Hybrid:

i wont even get started with those.

These are the two main factors I was talking about. I think those two reasons alone are the reason why i'm going to go with the Place Racing.

 

But what do the dynos and/or track times say about both of these?

I think Injen's dyno comes close to PR's. Not bad for Injen being "non-cai" eh? True that it is called a Race Division Intake (RDI).

Dynos favor hybrids and pop chargers because the open-hood/fan thing. I personally think that Injen's systems have more R&D behind them and that the piping is long enough to provide cooler air.

A note about the PR or others that require cutting: get hit or even nudged on that fender and you'll have a severed CAI tubing. You'd need a terrible front-end collision to destroy the Injen.

PR sounds the coolest though

 

The biggest problem i'm having is getting over the fact that i'm going to be making a 3"+ hole in my side fender.

 

Hot Air intakes do better on dyno's because they are in hot places with not enough Air rushing in ..

Hot Air intakes do better during summer runs at the track because the temp is hot..

Cold Air Intakes do excellent during winter months at the track.. anytime i drive during cold months with my CAI.. the car pulls from 90 - 120 easily in 5th.. not even without downshifting..

 

1st of all what makes you think that he tubing will become severed? just by a slight rubbing?? If you knew anythng the PR CAI kit comes with a rubber grommet that goes around the perimeter of the hole, preventing any type of rubbing.

And to make the hole takes litterlly 10sec if you have a good drill. I was shocked how fast my hole saw cut through the fender.

and yes the CAI makes the coolest and loudest hisssss at an idle, atleast mine does!

You obviously haven't heard a hybrid set-up


The ONLY track proven intake is the pop/hybrid set-up

the other two have such long tubing that it only intensifies the top end loss experienced on our cars...

 

I ran a CAI.. Synki ran a CAI.. MedicSonic ran a CAI.. most of us CAI guys only go to the track in November or Febuary.. it would make no sense for us to run from April to Sept like most of you guys go..

Rubbing is what would happen on a normal basis...way different from collision where a rubber grommet could not prevent the hole from even pinching the tubing a little. About the severing, i was being facetious.
