Light dims when applying brakes

I notice that my headlights along with my dash lights dim when I apply the breaks. Almost like if I had a hard hitting bass system robbing me of electrical power. Is this normal?

check your alternator...it might not be putting out enough power.

Same thing here! I did went to the dealer, who took a while to check for the actual recall. He checked the alternator and said it is fine. I got mad and asked my furious question, 'well aren't you going to change it?' He responded by showing me the actual recall paper, which reads ,(in my own words) this is a voluntary recall to inspect and or replace defective alternators. Apparently it is up to the dealers to decide if it is faulty! Do note , my "VIN" was in the category , which were recalled!
Does anyone has a suggestion? Kindly help.

I have the same issue. I have a UDP, so I'm not going near a dealership. It really doesn't bug me that much. However, people have suggested upgrading their wiring system to fix this problem. I'm not sure if it works, but you can search for these things.

Go to another Nissan dealer and see if they will change it for you since you are on the list. Did you call nissan and run your VIN through them to see if it was under recall?

they also check the model and manufacturer of the alternator thats what decides whether they will replace it or not

its not any cost to the dealer, Nissan pays them for the labor and parts

Would a 96 GLE fall under this recall?

I recently doubled my wires. I added an extra connection from the battery to the ground on the engine and an extra connection from the battery to the starter.

What prompted me to do this was when the car was at idle and i turned the dome light on it would flicker.

I added the the two 4gauage wires with gold connectors onto the exsisting wires and the problem with the flickering light went away completley.

Although I still have the problem with the headlights dimming when I roll the windows up or down or just hold all four of the windows switched up even though the windows are completely up.

I know for sure that this is not an alternator problem.

I had the headlight dimming problem even before I replaced the the alternator 1 year ago. Although I cant remember if I had the dimming problem before I switched over to the UDP from Unorothodox Racing.

Nah, I know I had it before. Can't blame the little pulley on this one. I'm pretty sure it's in the wiring...I wish I knew anything about wiring.

Here's a listing of affected alternators sorted by VIN:

http://www.nissandriven.com/owning/R...,9428,,00.html

I suggest you call nissan anyways (1-800-647-726) and have em run it through the system. I called... my alternator wasn't up for free replacement but since i bought the car used, i asked them to change the info to match my name address and phone # so just incase in the future, the recall letters and whatnot will be mailed to me
