Ok, after driving 3 days ago I was about to shut of my Max when I heard a shrill noise. It would only occur while idling - any throttle and it would dissappear. I shut it off, turned it back on, and the noise reappeared. I opened the hood and it seemed to be coming from the left side of the engine (if looking at engine from the front of the car), where all the pulleys are. Could it be bearing? A vaccuum leak? Serious? I've driven the car since then and havent heard it. Any ideas? Thanks...

 

It's probably the accessory belts. What year and how many miles?

Oops. 1995 GXE 5 speed. 75 000 miles.

 

It is most likely a belt, if you haven't checked or replaced them, do that, and check for any fluid leaking on them too. Goodluck

 

I also think its the belts. I had mine replaced few days ago and think it got rid of the sound. I only hear the sound when the car is cold so Im not too shure
