Suspension Guys, Please Help me Figure out this problem? :)

Well, thanx for takin the time to read my problem I have here.

I just installed the KYB AGX Struts with the Maxspeeds on about 4 weeks ago. I love them and all, and they perform very well.

My Problem is, with the Right Rear Section of the car. Where the Strut is. You know like if you popped the trunk on your car, and you pushed down on the back of the car and let it rise back up slighly? It makes this sound where that strut is that sounds like a Skreetching sound. Like as if I sat down in a chair that was Loose and it made that Door Opeinging very slowley sound. I notice this sound when I go over dips, or bumps in the road. And it only comes from that one side. It even does that when I push down on the trunk (With it open) and let it rise back up very slowley, it skreetches on that one right side. I have no idea what the problem could be.

My Brother was telling me that new Rubber bushings might solve the problem. Im not very sure though, anyone ever had this problem? And if you do think it is the bushings, Any way I can get a price on the original OEM Bushings? thanx a lot guys, its killing me the sound and it also causes this squeeling sound to when im driving. Thanx

The bushings could be an issue and it will only run you a few bucks for them. The pain is retaking off the strut etc.

Also make sure the spring is on there straight, a friend of mine looked at his once to realize it was very slightly crooked (Like maybe 1/4 inch off) and he fixed it upright and noises went away.

Did you also put the gaskets back in so no metal on metal is running and that everything went back on in the right order?

I got the same noise...

I tear apart my suspension again and it did not go away. BTW, I bought new everything.....everything, including rubber bushings and all those things since my car is at 110k when I changed the suspension.

The noise is there, and I figured...if you really want to do this, tear apart everything again, and put some lube between rubber bushings..you know, those two that you got close (the little ones). Not something like WD40...more like just a bit of grease between the rubber ones (I believe there is a metal piece between those two as well, can't remember straight now).

I believe that way the noise will go away.

I decided that it's not a biggie (checked my suspension and everything is checked). However, mine only does this when I go over edgy bumps though.....

I didnt put spring wrap around the back springs because they make no noises as in spring noise. As with the gaskits, my original OEM Springs didnt have them on there, therefore I guess I didnt cause there was none. But everything is back in the right order. Ill check to see if the spring is straight. THanx bro

did you prime the shocks before you installed them? The shocks are gas shocks; they make a bit of noise when they compress une uncompress. How loud is this noise.

1. Make sure the spring is seated right in the spring perch
2. Make sure you put back hte spring isolaters on the spring.. thats the main cause of noise

check spring fitment and also check to see if you tightened the top piston nut enough, i know i had to go down to pepboys to get the nut airgunned down cause it just kept spinning and i had a slight gap before when i had it on my car and the damn strut was jumping.

I will assume the noise is loud.
Do what they said: check the spring perch. However, if it is perched correctly, I am guessing it may be related to too much rubber. Did you use the KYB dust boots? If not did you trim the stops? You should replace the 2 rubber bushings as well.

It's a pretty common practice that nost DIYers forget to do. To prime a gas shock/strut, take it brand new out of the box before you go putting the rest of the hardware on it, and press the piston in all the way as many times as it takes for it to be too hard to push in. With AGX it usually only takes like 1-2 pumps.

if the strut/shock does not get to u compressed (strapped down) then u do not have to "prime" the unit. toks generally come unstrapped..and last time i checked so does the KYB AGX.

units that need to be primed are domestic/trucks shocks that come compressed (strapped down) and there is also a tag to tell u to prime it. they strap it down to reduce box size and shipping size. but generally it's not necessary to prime the units if they are delivered uncompressed.

also food for thought...non gas charged units needs to be primed. since there's no gas in the unit you need to turn it upside down and get the oil moving and etc...but AGX i believe you're ok w/o priming.

let's just say if it was necessary i believe they will have that info in the directions...or a big neon green piece of paper asking u to do that.

now don't get all bent out of shape because you're wrong in something. i don't feel threatened at all about a woman knowing car stuff...so don't complain that it's a flame blah blah blah.

haha, I'm not bent out of shape! It's cool. I prime all shocks...I don't care what kind they are hehe. Just a habit.

Anyhoo, I was just curious if he had or hadn't. My (rear) shocks made a bit of noise before I switched to the B&G and the rear KYB boots. It's probably, as I said, a case of either mounting or rubber.

Mmm how's THAT for a suggestive end to a sentence?

well if you don't lube/grease the rubber mount(s) before you insert the strut shaft it might make some noise during suspension travel.
