Soot buildup on tailpipe due to rich fuel mix?

I've been modding my car for a few months now, little by little. I've noticed a thick buildup of black soot on my tailpipe. Does this necessarily indicate a problem?

I've had my ECU reset a number of times in the past few months (due to installing mods), and it's said in the Nissan FSM that the ECU will run with a rich table for up to 40 engine starts after a reset. I know a rich fuel mixture can cause a soot buildup on the tailpipe, but this is pretty thick.

Anyone experience this? Should I be worried?

I have noticed this a little bit as well. Nothing awful, but it is more apparent than before. My mileage is still averaging 25 or 26mpg with mixed driving and my ECU isn't lighting up the check engine light, so if my computer is happy, then I'm happy. Better to be rich than lean, IMO
